Hi,

I am just about to embark on changing the timing belt on my 1993 defender 200 tdi engine. To tension the belt I need a dial or bending beam torque wrench. Does anyone in Perth have one I could borrow?

Thanks,

Rob

no you dont,

you need a small fish scale a known length beam and some maths.

9.8 Newtons to the kilo,

if you have a breaker bar mark it at a convenient point (that makes both the acces and the maths easy) wrap 2 pieces of wire around it about 2mm apart and the cover it with heat shrink and then use that point to pull the breaker bar around with the fish scale. remember to pull perpendicular to the bar and to keep the bar square to the square socket a 3 inch extension is about as goo as it gets to get the bar out past the end.
