Vacuum Pump

Hi guys,

Well, I've been trying to identify an annoying oil leak seeping very slowly from the passenger side of the engine bay of my 2007 Freelander HSE 3.2ltr. Today, I've identified that its from a part attached to the engine block to the left of the air filter box (looking at the car) and above the power steering pump. The part is oil fed and has a metal pipe running back into the fire wall. I have taken a couple of photos hoping that someone may be able to help me identify what the part is before taking it to the stealers for identification and repair. The oil seems to be leaking from perhaps a gasket or something, underneath the mystery part. If identified, would anybody know if the gasket is replaceable or would it need a whole replacement part.

Hi all,

Referring to my previous thread earlier today (what's this), I have been told my Freelander 2 3.2ltr has a leaking vacuum pump for the brakes. Brakes are working fine however the pump is slowly leaking. Has anybody ever had a leaking pump replaced?? Was it as simple as just replacing a gasket or do you need to replace the whole pump??

It will depend on where it is leaking from. If it from the mount its a simple O-ring P/NLR017021.
If its from the pump itself it will require replacement. Found this on ebay

Thanks woko. Reading a little more about it, the o-ring seems to be a common fault, they say it fixes a good percentage of leaks.

If it's the oring get a Viton unit from someone like Hallite, ludowici or Seal Imports...

Cost something like 4-5$

Thanks camel-landy, found out its the vacuum pump for the brakes. Doing a bit of research, there is an o ring that needs replacing, its actually quite a common cause of leak but a simple and cheap fix according to Volvo's i6 forum. Since owning the car, it was always mistaken for a power steering pump leak. Then was warned that it could be coming from the transmission, :eek: I thought!!!

True too the Freelander's trusty reliability, its just a simple o ring and hopefully, problem solved!!
