Every time a question like this gets asked the answer is the same.

For a solid wheel carrier rijidij off road will have what you want.
I have his 130 one and it's very solid.
I'm led to believe he's a nice chap too

So how does this go with hitching and unhitching a trailer? I run 285/75 tyres and would love to have more room in tub, but just not sure about the interference with trailer hitching
Thanks

Hmm not sure how 285/75s will go but with 235/85 I do have to open the wheel carrier to hitch up with your standard type ball coupling.
Once hooked up though you can just close the carrier back up and go.

Goose necks and trailer hitches can vary quite a bit in height. These pics might give you a better idea of clearance height.
The lowest part of the carrier arm is approx 10mm above the bottom face of the chassis.

I'm confused... the only reference I can find on the site to wheel carriers
Home - Rijidij Off Road (http://rijidijoffroad.bounce.com.au/#/defender/4551247239)
refer to those for wagons, as does the text and photos.

Where's the info on the 130 carrier please?

Um, sorry, the 130 carrier isn't on the website, it's a low volume item (and I've been too slack to up-date the website).
If you need any specific info, please ask.

That's actually a customer's car, but he's a member on here. I'll PM his details, hopefully he's got some pics to share.

Yep I def want one...I would still love to see pictures of one on a 130 with an off road camper (off road hitch) attached though from different angles

I've been toying with the idea of changing the design to allow more clearance around the tow bar area, but I haven't had time to look at what could be done, if anything.

Lou,
The wheel is off set to the R/H side to allow for the number plate.

With 35's you've just gained quite a bit of space in the back :)

That is only a 33" on there at the moment Murray, they are my day to day road tyres. But you are correct,it frees up a lot of space in the back

As Murray said Lou,it sits off to one side,I haven't fitted the light pole yet though,as I need to run a power wire to the rear, but ran out of time today.
That is the only pic I have of the bar though,as I only remembered to take it just before dark this afternoon.I will endeavour to take a couple more with the carrier open etc from different angles.I might put the 35's on in the next week or so,to see what it looks like.

They are from a 110 rear,I have a set of wider Flatdogs to cover my wider 35's

You got an off road trailer Wayne?
If so have you had it hitched up to see what articulation is like at the hitch with the wheel and carrier sticking out

Do they do a dual wheel carrier or jerry can holder on left side of car

No Lou,I don't have and never will have an off road trailer,I don't like being restricted and held back by things like trailers, and there is plenty of room in and on a 130.
I just had a quick look and there is a minimum of 9 inches of vertical clearance from the towbar to the bottom of the tyre and that would only impact on R/H turns,as the tyre is offset to the right,so in the straight ahead position, there is a lot more clearance. This was checked to the towbar without a tongue fitted, fitting a tongue would make it even better due to the fact that the hitch would form a fulcrum point even further back adding to the available clearance

G'day,
The 130 wheel carrier can be made in left and right hand versions, but you can't use two of them as a dual carrier, this is because the wheel can't be moved out closer to the side of the car because it would hit the body when it swings around.
I have had some 130 chassis extension brackets laser cut, but I haven't had a chance to weld them together. I'm hoping these will allow the fitment of the 110/90 Dual carrier (http://rijidijoffroad.bounce.com.au/#/defender-dual-rear-bar/4567122838) to the 130, but I need to fit one up with the brackets to make sure it all works and is solid etc etc.
Cheers, Murray

I've always been worried about the weight cantilevered off the back cross member but it's probably no worse than a draw bar ?

I have had one on my 110 for a few years with a 35" tyre and steel rim hanging off it and have pounded it on rock ledges, and no damage to the cross member yet:p That is the reason I didn't bother looking any further than Murray for one to fit the 130;)
