Flew down to Sth Oz early monday morning to meet with David aka spudboy.

We did the formalities of signing over his rangie to me after we had been to the bank and then I had the 1365k drive home.

In all the vehicles that I've driven,I have never felt more refreshed getting out of the rangie than any other that I have driven.:D

A few pics are included. :)

cheers

That is a great car. I knew the first owner when I was working in Alice Springs, and David kindly let me use it as a wedding car in Adelaide.

Yup, just a stunning automobile. I have admired this model since the first one I saw. Almost had SHMBO convinced that we could afford one as well.
Forgive me for bringing this up but a very lengthy recent post on gearbox woes has left me depressed. Hoping for good news here! Are the last of this model run any better in this regard? Also is the smallish diesel performance ok in such a heavy vehicle, my only experience is with the TD5, 4ltr pet & now the TDCI 2.4.
I just don't want to give up on this dream!
Once again, lovely car, enjoy!
Regards Chris.

Hi Bess,

Cruising at 110kph on the hay plains was effortless.Coming up from Cowra there are quite a few hills to climb on the way to Bathurst. It went up there like I had a v8 under the bonnet. This is compared to my old 200tdi disco.:p
More than happy with the performance.
Regarding the gearbox--Spudboy had it fully flushed approx 20 thou ago.So I'm hoping to get a bit of mileage out of it before it goes bang.:)
I've got the readies just in case the box goes bang anyway,so I'm not too concerned.
Hope that helps.

Mate she sounds exactly what I imagine the L322 to be like.
I hope the RR Gods smile on you & the trans keeps doing exactly what it's supposed to. I have yet to drive one but just know if I do that I'll be a goner.
Did some searching last night, that's a lot of car for the money.
Come on Mr Lottery Iam not asking for a lot ;)
Regards Chris.

To Pedro the swift, pretty sure it is,havent checked the plate on it yet lol.

To Bess, yeah they are a bit of money, but Spudboy had the transmission fully flushed roughly 20 thou ago so I'm hoping to prolong the box with a full flush every 50 thou.Am hoping that will prolong the life of the box.Not sure if the transfer case was done so thats on the agenda when I get round to a service on it.

It pulls like a train mate, especially if the engine ECU has been massaged as mine has. Flag me down for a drive next time I'm going through 'Gatha on the way down to Walkerville come next december/january, if you haven't acquired one by then. See you in the Woolies carpark.

I personally don't think the autobox on these is that bad, but the tourque converter is another case. The moment you notice even the slightest shudder on lockup - get the thing replaced.

Good on ya disco gazza you wont regret getting the RR, I have put dual battery /LED bar light /Bluefin tune/ ecotuning ECU/upgraded radio/gps /iPod /Bluetooth/ snorkel ( thanks to Peter G for information ) you have to get a GAP ID tool fantastic you are able to do amazing changes with it and also clear faults.

Mccoey that's a generous offer & one that I would gladly take up but come Monday we are headed back to Sydney to live. It's always interesting to research a particular component failure in a Land Rover only to find that the same component is used in lots of other vehicles yet the failures are not as widely publicised( or maybe Iam just not looking for them ) I note that from MY10 an eight speed was available but some are saying it still had issues.
For me the savings on a good used L322 is so significant that I can justify spending some on repairs as required  Just have see what I can find in ole Sydney town.
Thanks again, regards Chris.

Declan,
Yeah its beautiful to drive after my disco 200tdi. :D
Will be getting an iid tool as soon as.Just paid $1500 to have the rego transferred over.:censored:
How is the ecotuning ecu going.
Have been wondering whether to get one or not.

I am very happy with the ecotuning it locks in the torque converter at 58km hr so less slippage and a lot less heat in the transmission, you can monitor your transmission oil temperature with your IID tool for a period of time so its good if your towing that's were the ecotuning comes in as the TC close at 58kmhr and is not general open as it is with the normal ECU, sorry lads did not take any pictures of the install of the snorkel but as I said ( if you ask Peter G nicely he did take pictures ) enjoy your RR they are a great 4x4 especially if they are use for 4 wheel driving. ( attached a couple pictures of the beast ).

Cheers Deco.

Instead of opening another thread;

I have a pair of Fyrlyt's that I have on my D1. Is it possible to put them on just the rubber nudge bar or will I have to put the bolts through the bumper bar as well. The nudge bar looks pretty wonky when you move it to and fro.
As yet I haven't tried the high beam on the beast yet to see how the normal high beam is.

Thanks

cheers

I made some brackets for the Fyrlyts on my 07 Vogue. I know the bumpers and grilles are a bit different but you could have a look at the pics I posted and take some inspiration.

Hi . I've got Fyrlyt's on my L322 TD6. Mounted them to my factory nudge bar. Easy & they don't move. On the underside of the top hoop I had 4 threaded spuds . These were plugged with little black rubber bungs. Remove bungs to find threads. I then cut 2 bits of 2" x 1" RHS about 2 - 2 1/2" long. 1 for each side. Lights are mounted upside down. ie swung. in each piece of RHS drill 3 holes. 1 for the light & 2 to mount to bar. The 2 holes that are for mounting to bar are drilled out on the reverse side just big enough for bolt head to pass through. I used allen head bolts. All bolt heads/ washers are inside the RHS. Once all bolted together RHS ends are filled with hard plastic ends . No bolts to be seen from the front. Not totally theft proof but blood hard to get at with out right tools. Have only had to re-tighten them twice since fitting . Not vibrations of lights . All good.

Hope this all make sense.

sorry lads did not take any pictures of the install of the snorkel but...

First time I've seen one on a FFRR, well done. I take it the bonnet still opens OK? And was this to gain wading depth or for clear(er) air when travelling in convoy?

Bonnet and door just clear nicely, the snorkel used is a cheapie to suit D3 & D4,s. Quite a bit of work to fit, you need to remove front guard to make mods to panels underneath etc. If you want to do this, PM me your email as I have a "how to" with pics in MS word format, and I will send to you.

Sorry, forgot to answer Q on wading/dust. My reason was primarily dust, however may help wading as duct is sealed to snorkel, subject to "management" of connection to filter housing and "drain" holes under housing.

Hey DiscoGazza have you fitted your FYRLYTs yet ? I am thinking of doing the same on my L322 but was worried about the space. After speaking to FYRLYT direct they thought that I could bolt direct to the bar using an M8 bolt that fits just one of the studs in the bar using an appropriate washer 33chinacars idea looks neat though.

Also can either or both of you tell me how the FYRLYTs perform on your L322s and what wiring kit you used.

Thanks

Julian

I am very happy with my Fyrlyts (although I now have a set of Nemesis to fit, too much light is barely enough!).

I installed and wired them myself. It is all pretty easy, just use thick enough wire. I also chose to use one relay per light to make sure there were no voltage drop issues.

Epsom Green is the colour.
Although metallic, it's almost BRG but not quite. REAL BRG ( ex Jag, etc) is just a shade lighter.
Now that I know of 2 others same colour as mine , getting too common! I work out around Chinchilla and the only other EG one I've seen in flesh is IN same area!
Might have to change?
No way!

Have to agree with you disco gazza, awesome torque for a big heavy car. Hills just fade away. I have hit 300.000ks on mine - same colour BTW -just had the gearbox fully serviced - major oil/filters etc. Made a huge difference - smoother, quieter and more responsive - expensive but well worth it.
The car has given me nothing but pleasure - hope yours does too!
