Has anyone had a totally dead trailer socket ?
The socket on my D4 (3 months old) is totally dead. I recently got around to buying a round to flat adaptor and connected it to my neighbour's caravan. Absolutely no lights came on, on the van. Had the engine running, headlights on, emergency lights flashing. the only thing I didn't look at was the brake light. Thought it was a faulty adaptor but about a week or two later I got driving lights fitted and I got the guy to look at it. He put a tester on the adaptor and it was ok. then he tested every pin on the D4's trailer socket - all dead.
Any ideas before I contact the dealer, fuse maybe? I don't use a trailer very often but would like the lights to work when I do.

Sounds like the connector has come apart or the cable has been cut. I doubt that all pins would be dead otherwise.

It could be a way of getting around the compliance issue. Disconnect the socket and there is no incompatibility with Australian Stadards.

There should be an adapter in your glove box; I went out to buy one, but fortunately found it whilst looking for something else.
I assume the trailer lights otherwise works? Haven't had a problem with mine so far.

No, I didn't find an adaptor when I picked the car up. Bought one at Supercheap Auto. Tried it on the neighbour's van and his lights work ok.
Rang the dealer today and it's booked in for next Tuesday to be looked at. I'd leave it until a service but you can bet your bottom dollar that I'll need to use a trailer if I don't get it looked at :)

5 Sec. fix & saves a trip to the dealer hopefully.
Check the L/H/R Loadspace (where your tow hitch lives) in the upper l/h corner of this opening there should be two grey plugs. In these two plugs should be the loom that goes to your rear chassis. We have found a few that have not been connected, just sitting in there.

Thanks Pete.
Had a look and saw the two grey plugs but I couldn't see any loose looms floating about - probably staring me in the face:p or were they supposed to plug into each other ?

Not plugged into each other, but should have wiring coming out the other side of the plugs to your rear bumper as they are your trailer plugs!
If no wiring coming from other side then the plugs are floating around in there somewhere.

Dropped the car at the dealer this morning. Got a call from them 10 minutes ago. A batch of cars in a VIN range were missing the wiring - subject to a LR notice and this was supposed to have been rectified before delivery. Missed in my case. Parts due in tomorrow.
Thanks for the advice Sniegy - I guess I wasn't blind after a. :pll
