Hi all,
I've recently bought a S2A SWB ute and I want to find out some more about it. It appears to have been made by the Pressed Metal folks, so a CKD kit I guess. It has been at least three shades of green in its' life and appears to have S3 doors (with Leyland badges) fitted. It's currently in "truck cab" form, but the roof was once red..... It appears to be pretty straight, but has some filler lurking beneath very tired paint. mechanically seems very good, fitted with the 2.25L diesel and gearbox and transfer case operate as they should (at least I think they do!)
The number from the plate is 27301236G which seems to line up with the 1971 build date on the plate, but any further information would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
joe

I can tell it's a diesel built between April 1969 and February 1971, but for more exact detail you'd have to know which dealership supplied it, and find who has those records (if they still exist).
Dan.
69 2A 88" pet4 (still in disguise), 68 2B FC pet6 (still resting quietly), plus 16 other parts/project cars (1xS2, 7xS2As, 8xS3s), soon increasing!!!!:(:D

joeThe best information that I can give you is that #27301236G had Diesel engine #27171463K the ignition key was code 984, the original tyres were Dunlop Road Track Major 6.00 16 and it was sent to dealer Amos Smith and Sons in Narrabri on 24/3/71.
Sorry I can't help more than that.

Thanks for the info! I guess I've got to chase the trail from the Narrabri end now. I can say that it doesn't have the original key but will check the engine number when I get a chance. The "word" that came along with this wee beasty is that it had come from out west somewhere and had been "driven around Australia" at an earlier time in its' life. So, we'll see.

joe

Do you have any information on chassis #24302318a which is my new SWB 1962 SIIA?
Thanks in anticipation.

Sorry Nic #24302318a doesn't appear to be a NSW vehicle.
The closest NSW vehicle is #24302344a and was sold in October 62

Thanks Diana.
Can I just clarify - my SIIA has a label from Pressed Metal Corp indicating its Sydney build. The previous owner thought that it had been assembled in June '62 and had always been registered in Victoria but he didn't have any evidence to support this.
Do your records therefore only cover NSW registered vehicles?
Thanks again.

I think her records cover NSW retailed vehicles, being those of the NSW distributor.

Hi Nic
Up until Leyland Australia in 1973, Australian distribution of Land Rover and Rover cars was allocated to five master distributors.
NSW & ACT was Grenville Motors in Sydney (and Cooma)
Vic & Tas was Regent Motors in Melbourne
Qld and Northern Rivers region of NSW was Annand & Thompson in Brisbane.
 S.A. & N.T. was Champions Ltd Adelaide
W.A. was Faulls Perth.I have a copy of the Grenville Motors books saved by Arthur Garthon (a Land Rover dealer in Southern Sydney, same dealership that is now Purnells Blakehurst). My copy is with Arthur's permission, but he asked me not to reproduce them so I won't, but am happy to give out details.
BTW: Arthur is actually Mr LR's grandfather.

Thanks Diana - I'll see if I can track details down via Victoria.
