View Full Version : HDC Stuck on

Started up my D3 yesterday and noticed after system check that Green HDC light was still on. I drove off with no problems but when I started coasting down the next rise on the road, there was slight HDC activation so I thought, its actually stuck on. When i got above 50km/h, the message centre informed me speed to high for HDC.
Got to my destination but when I got back in later, HDC green light still on. No other warning signals and I hadnt operated the Terrain response or anything so its just seems to be stuck on. Car still operates perfectly except when coasting down hill below 50ks, veryy slight shudder from brakes being activated.
Any ideas what it might be and how I can switch it off (a forlorn hope). Pity you cant deactivate HDC because its not something I've ever used.
Thanks

Very odd, never heard of that happening. You're not in low range are you, or a TR mode that switches HDC on?
You could do a master reset (by disconnecting the battery) and see if that clears it.

I'm pretty sure im not in TR mode. Had a fiddle around with TR when it happened and switched to low range. All those systems working perfectly and no warning messages but then when I go back to normal driving mode, the Green HDC light is still on.
Is the hard reset easy to do?

I assume you have tried operating the HDC switch, or checking that there isn't something stuck in the switch.
Master reset by disconnecting the battery, then touching the positive and negative battery leads together.

TR mode will reset when started again.
Car off, bonnet up, handbrake on, close doors, and when the handbrake symbol turns off (a couple of minutes), remove battery cover, remove earth, then positive, short leads together (not battery) with a steel spanner or similar, then put positive back on, the negative, battery cover back on, close bonnet,.....and fire her up.
Fixes lots of things...but not all.

Just out of curiosity, does a hard reset void your warranty or is it approved by LR ?

A hard reset is OK.

Have you actually tried turning HDC off at the switch - I occasionally get the HDC light on and it is normally as a result of accidently pushing the switch while doing something else.

My wife has (had I should say) a habit of leaving her handbag on top of the tr/hdc switches ... She once came home lamenting "I've broken the car, the hdc is on all the time and it's hard to drive in traffic" - she was rather red faced after I pointed out that she just needed to press the big yellow button. She will never live that one down !
