Now here's a oddity. I changed the indicators on my 300tdi to a set of LEDs using the Wipac kit. It should be a simple replacement of parts. With the old globes all works fine. However, changing to the LEDs and replacing the flasher unit results in all of the lights flashing at the same time (as hazard lights) whenever an indicator is switched on. In addition, the indicator panel light flashes dimly whilst the trailer light flashes brighly. Before it flashed only once.

Any of you electrical wizards out there have any ideas?

That an interesting tip. I'll give it a go in the morning. Thanks

I can't help thinking that the guys who make these kits are going to have to start including instructions for fixing this issue. It's obviously going to come up a lot of the time.

Absolutely. The way Defers are wired, the system simply will not work if just the indicators (all of them) are replaced with LEDs. That said, I forgot that part when I did the write-up too...
