Do I really have to go to the Stealers to get this light cleared from my dash. I have read that there is suppose to be a switch under the passenger kick panel to reset this light but I have searched long and hard and cant find it on my 99 4.0SE. My Hawkeye scan tool does everything else but clear this light.

Any suggestions other than removing the buld?

Thx
Mike

Never seen a service light before. Didn't even know they had one. Not heard of any switch.

Sure its not a fault? As in the engine is knocking too much or a faulty sensor etc?

Sure others will be able to help shed light on this.

I've never seen a service engine light. I've seen the milder "engine warning" in orange letters. The owners hand book describes this as being non-critical (kind of thing). Is your warning in red?

Can you scan for faults using the obdII port? Mine turned out to be dodgy O2 sensors.

but the explanation given to me is it has to do with the service interval (oil change) on the vehicle. Once you reach the pre set miles eg. 3000, 5000 7000 etc the light is suppose to come on indicating the vehicle is ready for its next oil change, once completed you have to reset the light/system for the next 3000, 5000, 7000 interval. Wondering if this reset can only be done at the stealers.

The light is red and has been there since I bought the vehicle about 6 months now, no other issues and a scan shows nothing out of the ordinary. Had the check engine light the other day for 02 sensors but was corrected

Yeah. Not aware of the p38 having such a big brother prescriptive feature. Mines a 98 gems. Never seen a service light come on. Is yours a later model.

This is what the owners manual states about the light you are seeing on the dash:

Emission maintenance reminder

- RED.

Illuminates briefly (for 3

seconds) as a bulb check when the starter

switch is turned to position ’II’.

Illuminates continuously when the vehicle

reaches 82,500 miles (130,000 km) approx.

When this occurs, take the vehicle to a Land

Rover dealer for a special emission related

service to be carried out.

How many kms has yours done?

ok.... so its emission related and has to be done at the dealer....i'm at 139,000 miles. Don't know why I thought I read somewhere about a red/orange module by the passenger kick panel that when you remove the Land Rover sticker there is a pin hole that is used to reset this light...ugh

I'd just pull the bulb. It doesn't indicate a fault, so not worth having.

Its probably there so a LR dealer has the opportunity to relieve you of some of your hard earned, by fitting new CATS, O2 sensors and/or a MAF. Consensus seems to be, that's about their useful life.

Probably a carbs requirement.

Thanks for the insight guys....Benji I see your point, its not causing any other issues or fault so I am going to pull the bulb.

Thx
