G'day, has anyone installed an icom IC440N CB radio in a D3? It has all controls etc on the hand piece so just needs the unit installed up under the dash somewhere and connected to power and antenna. Sounds simple enough but keen for any tips from someone that has done it, particularly on where they installed the unit itself. Have a traxide DBS so was thinking I would hook it up to that and run cabling through the existing hole in the firewall on the driver side if I can make it fit through with the DBS wiring.
Cheers,
Chris

Under the drivers seat...
And wire to your primary battery..

I don't have an Icom, instead I have a Uniden with a remote mic. Installation should work for any remote radio though.
Inside the dash on the RHS.
Pull the cover under the steering wheel off and there is a hole on the RHS, just inside the hole is a metal plate. I mounted my radio to the plate using tek screws.
It is convenient for accessing the hole in the fire wall for the antenna and for running power. I run mine off the second battery.
The cable for the handset runs up behind the cover and exits at the top left, I have a ClicOn (http://www.holdmyphone.com.au/mounts/car/land-rover/discovery-4/discovery-4-09-12/centre-mount.html)bracket next to the instruments and it hangs off it.
Below is picture of the mic and bracket. The ClicOn bracket is hidden by the piece of aluminium that I fabbed up to hold the mic and my brake controller.

Mine is under the passenger seat. The mic extension socket is screwed to the side of the centre console. The mic lives in the glove box and is only turned on when plugged in, then free float in the centre console; no bracket installed.

Mine is under my drivers seat as well but wired to my aux battery. I also put a small fuse box under the drivers seat to drive some other electrical bits such as gps, extra 12v sockets.

I have the same unit as Geedublya (Uniden) and happened to use the same mounting method of the head unit - inside the hole under the driver's dash, mounted to the flat (well sort of flat) steel thing in there.
I run the extension cable to come out between the driver's seat and the centre console, near the cupholders, and only plug in the microphone unit when I need it for trips, so it is basically invisible most times.

There is a full tutorial on this forum. Do a search for ' How to install an IC-440 in a D3'. I think you can thank WhiteD3 for that.

There's a thread here : http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/102327-uhf-mounting-cabin.html that shows how mine is installed as well
