Hello everyone,

There is a potential series one project on the cards in the family, and I thought some of the wiser minds could put a possible date on the one picture we have at the moment. It has a Holden motor, and we don't have a chassis number. The chassis is galvanised, if that makes any difference.

Any indication of vintage would be great.

Cheers,

Looks like an 80inch from 1948-50, though having a Holden motor in it opens the door for all sorts of mods etc. Find the chassis number either on the passenger side engine mount or the ID plate under the bonnet on the passenger side. At that time the prefix numbers changed each production year (starting each previous September IIRC). Can I assume, being an 80inch, that the Holden motor in it is a Grey motor (it has an engine mount under the crank pulley)?

Has two parts guard tops (probably off an 86" so they could fit the headlights?)

Appears no clearance lights in firewall (these stopped @ 51 model?

The series 3 grille (which suprisingly looks ok there!) could cover an early radiator support panel but more likely a later one as I believe there would still be visable hole the panel both sides of centre..

Doesn't appear to be a fishplate chassis (where bumper joins chassis)

The hoosticks are a good bonus (appear to have been very well strengthened!)

cant tell about the tray from the photo

did the doors have outside handles?

Looks pretty good though and if its got a galv chassis that is a huge bonus.

I suggest it is 51-53? but that is nothing to hold onto as Im no expert, they'll come along soon enough and correct everything I've said.

I suggest that you start by dating it, then propose to it and take it home :D

Have a look for the chassis number on the left hand engine mount,

Cheers Charlie

Thanks everyone.

I noticed the guards on each side are different, the nearest one has the seam across the front.

I'll bring more information forward as it comes to light.

I would say its a 53, main reason is the door hinges, the lower half hinge came in for the 53 year.
The id plate should be between the instruments and steering bracket.
I would say starts will a 3666???? or 3616???? number.
Hope this helps

It also has the later seat backs and definitely not fish plate chassis, so not pre '50.

How are you doing that?!? The picture supplied is way too small for me to pick out any of those details. Even the S3 grille looks like an 80" full-grille to me!!!
