Advice please and thank you.

Took advantage of 7-11 diesel bowser......

subsequently The message "water in fuel" popped in and out intermittently, car running fine. Then message became more or less continous.

Nanocom results fault code p2269 "water in fuel" and lists as permanent.

Drained about 200ml from filter, no water in fuel, Dropped and replaced filter. Message water in fuel gone for a day.

Is there a way to bench test the integrity of the detection unit before I spend the cash on a new one?

Can i confidently suspect the detection unit is at fault seeing there was no water in the filter drain? How sensitive are these things? Does the notation by the Nanocom error as permanent indicate detector failure?

Cheers guru's

Has it been raining? Mine was clever enough to detect water on the outside after having driven through puddles, fixed by smothering the electrical connectors in sealant.

No, Graeme, since changing filter and cleaning sensor/drying contacts with contact cleaner car has stayed in garage.

Have read about an issue with the filter housing also being a cause of this issue

I guess i am looking for a resistance test or whatever for the sensor lead.

(u can guess I am no Lectrician).

anyone know the numbers? walk me thru the test on the multi meter?

cheers

The message being identified as permanent is likely to be so that the dealer can see and record that there has been water in the fuel even if the water is no longer there. The D4 has a water in fuel indicator (not just a stored fault code) that has to be specifically cleared using diagnostics.

If the warning keeps occurring with this tank of fuel then unless the sensor is quite inexpensive I would pump all that fuel out (to be used in my old tractor) and try fuel from another source before thinking of replacing the sensor.

And the way for a home garage dude to pump out the fuel tank is?

cheers

Via the bleed valve with its core removed although it would be slow. If the pump doesn't keep running with the ignition on then remove the pump relay and bridge the sockets, which might be better anyway.
