Gday All,

Well done the head gasket and reassembled everything , checked the timing several times, Started the car and it fired pretty well straight away, but wont idle, its rough as , put the boot into the loud pedal and it will rev and run quite smooth. Seems as tho running on 1 or 2 cylenders

Not blowing smoke, and am 100% sure timing is correct.

Car has new coil pack, cleaned throttle body, and new filters etc.

I don't have a code reader to check, but any ideas on where to look before I send it to someone who has a code reader.

I feel as tho I've left something off like a connecter or something, but cant find it and had a good look around.

Cheers Ean

You haven't done something silly like swopping No 2&3 leads around have you. Or maybe check the induction system for an air leak.

Good luck!

Nino.

My wife's Astra was running terribly for ages, sounds similar. There's a long plastic moulding that goes along the top of the engine that contains the wiring for the fuel injectors (might be the HT ignition leads, but I think it was the injector harness, car not here at present to check); one or two of the clips that hold this thing down had been broken off and consequently the harness was not making proper contact. If it's idling rough, try pushing down on this moulding. Pretty sure from memory it's the injector harness, as the diagnostic equipment just showed the engine to be running lean.

Vacuum line off somewhere?

Looks like its a vacuum leak on the inlet manifold.

Checked and rechecked everything , then as a last resort sprayed accelerant around the inlet manifold where it bolts onto the block and the engine improved so will be resealing the manifold tomorrow.
