Chaps, I'm currently running Pirelli Scorpion ATR 255/60R/18s on my Disco 3 and thinking about putting the D697s on BUT they aren't available in 255 18 inch, only 265.
I spoke to a bloke at Bridgestone and he said I could have all sorts of problems if I fitted the 265s.
What's the general opinion, stick with 255s or move to the 265s?

Many members of this forum are running that tyre on 18's.
I have ordered a set of GOE 18 inch rims and intend to put to put the D697's on.
This is a on a D4 not sure about a D3.
Cheers

What a load of _____!
No problem what so ever as you are only going larger marginally.
( As long as you are changing all the tyres)

As the others have said.
I am running Yokohama Geolandar AT/S 265/60/18 on my 2008 SE TDV6. They have been on for about 20,000km. The only difference I can see is they make the speedo more accurate:), and give me a bit more sidewall.
No problems. Many people are running the D697 and I probably would have to, but I got an exceptional deal on the Yokos.

A small reduction in fuel economy will occur...use a touch more fuel.
My 285/60-18 use pretty much spot on an extra litre per 100, then the factory 255/55-19....taller and much wider.
A Wider tyre has a little more resistance, and a taller tyre needs a touch more effort to turn them.

Just like Brett says, there should be limited affect.
There are plenty of folks on this forum running 285/60/18 on their D4s.
Occasional scrubbing is the only issue I've read about.

Kev.

If 285 x 60 x 18's fit albeit with a little rubbing does anyone know if 285 x 50 x 20's will fit on genuine D4 rims?

Hmmm, 10% less sidewall = 28.5mm but add 25.4mm increase in radius. It's only an additional 3mm but it was marginal to start with. Mind you these are theoretical figures.

On the std rims, the 285mm width will come _very_ close to the front control arms.

Hi Rich,
I have bought a 2010 Disco 3 and am looking at putting the D697's on my Disco 3 as well.
It currently has Wrangler 255/60-18's on the back and Continental 255/60-18's on the front. The Continentals are still in good condition.
You commented that it would be fine to change to 265/60-18's so long as all tyres are changed.
What would be the implications if I moved the Continentals to the rear and put two new D697's on the front?
thanks, Divot

You will notice that while the tyre is only 6 mm larger in radius the circumference is a whopping 37.7mm per tyre revolution larger.
Over just 1 km the larger tyre will cover an additional 15m!
Can't be good long term for your driveline.

The tyre guy is a dill, 255/60/18 is 30.0", 265/60/18 is 30.5", you won't even notice the difference, the advantage is the speedo will be closer to correct;)

265/60-18 159mm 388mm 775mm 2435mm 411 0.0%

255/60-18 153mm 382mm 763mm 2398mm 417 -1.5%
