What are the signs that the gearbox to transfer box adapter shaft splines (I think that's what it is called) needs greasing. My Puma has developed a resonance cycle like a low rumble, that you can feel and hear under load. I have read that the lack of lubrication at this point is a concern. I do not know if this could be cause of my problem but I have not been able to track it down. The resonance varies in pitch but the each cycle its the same (Its a bit hard to explain) . Its sounds like it could develop into something serious.

Clutch spring rattle ? ......
Common problem on 2.4L, not sure if it was fixed with 2.2L.

Its not a rattle but a deeper pulsating resonance but could be clutch related ,who knows.

I get it in low range in steep country, have done with all three pumas, it sounds like a clutch throw out bearing, have been told it's normal and to date hasn't been an issue...I'm not concerned.

I also have had this in both of my PUMA's, the TD5 does not do this, but I think that's because it has a Dual mass flywheel, whereas the PUMA is a solid flywheel, so there is not rotational damping in a PUMA. I've heard you will also get this in a TD5 if you go with a solid flywheel upgrade. That shaft you mention - you might be able to get small amount of backlash perhaps noticed through gear change clunks, but other than that it appears to be symptom free until the splines strip.
