Hi,

I've got a 97 V8 Disco on gas that and currently transferring all the good bits over to a 98 300tdi, last year I had an OMVL R90E and new mixer ring fitted to the V8 and I'm wondering if any parts from the old gas system could be installed into the 300tdi? as part of a gas conversion I know I would need a new tank and some way to control the gas but I cant find much info on diesel gas components,

Thanks for any input . . . .

Diesel gas is an addition rather than a substitution and the maximum rate of LPG is around 10% of the rate of an equivalent converted petrol engine, ie about 20% of the rate of diesel use. An OMVL converter is waaay overkill for this flow rate and they aren't sufficiently well controlled at very low flow rates. There are converters that will happily work at such low rates and I have done so. Lovato and Zavoli are the two petrol engine converters I have used. Metering is tricky as too much flow will quickly lead to engine damage. A jet size of around 2.5mm suffices for gas drawn into a 300TDi turbo inlet.

Sell the OMVL if it's in good condition, you may get a couple of hundred if its nearly new. Check ebay, they regularly appear there.

Your gas tank may indeed be useable but remember you need around 5x as much diesel to use up a full tank of gas. BTW you won't find an installer willing to do this as it isn't mainstream. Dedicated diesel gas systems are quite expensive as they must keep tight reign on the gas flow.

You probably know the diesel gas systems need a gas supply, not liquid.
The hard to get bit is the pressure operated gas regulator - supplies are very jealously guarded by fitting companies, and expensive.
Then you have the compliance plate problem.

Beautey might pop up soon with good advice.

Good luck.

Our truck C15 with LPG injection has two valves. One pressure regulator for gas flow...converting liquid to gas? and the actual regulator that switches on boost pressure and I think..a delay circuit of sorts. Whichever way it works...IT BLOODY WELL WORKS...the torque this thing produces is gobsmacking!

The pressure valve on the gas line is garden variety...the boost switch is proprietary.

Whatever you do...do not attempt this without a working pyrometer.
