Hi Guys...

I have been looking around for a full length (1800mm or 2200mm) Roof Rack to suit my 2008 D3. I want one that will take a Roof Top Tent, and am trying to get away without having to fit the long roof rails as this is a $450 impost that I would rather spend elsewhere.

So far I have only found the Baja EXP that comes with mounts that don't need the long rails. Does anyone else know of any others that I can look at? I have been in to see ARB, TJM and Opposite Lock and they all just want to sell me the 1500mm version of their respective brands.

I would also love to get one that the BlackWidow Fred's Arm can fit to...

Hi, I don't understand why Opposite Lock did not show you the FrontRunner Slimline. They sell the FrontRunner gear. I have the Cheetah Slimline roofrack D4 - KRLD022T. It fits straight into your roof channels, and does not require any tracks. Do a search for the posts on Frontrunner slimline. There are pics on the forum. You can also check out the Dolium website for more data. At least then if you like the rack, you can ask for the specific model at Opposite Lock.

x2 on the Frontrunner Slimline.

I also have the full length rack on the D4. Best option out there IMO.

There is also a Rhino Rack option available. My boss has one on his D3. Slightly wider than the Frontrunner and sits a little bit higher than the Frontrunner as well. Definitely not as strong as the Frontrunner.

Another brilliant feature of the Frontrunner is that each rail has a "track" in both the top and bottom side - you can use standard "off the shelf" bolts from the hardware store - slide the bolt head into the track and secure your accessories to EITHER the top or the underside of your roofrack. I'm not aware of any other brand that has this feature.

I also dislike the way that you have to buy the "special" bolts from the other brands sales outlets to allow you to secure accessories etc to the top side of their roofracks - and the track bolts for one brand of roofrack will not fit the track of their competitors. :censored:

My old D2 has a bit of a hybrid roofrack system on it - part Rhino and part Rola. Was fun trying to get that to all work together. ;)

Thanks guys, will go for another visit to Opposite Lock tomorrow... Does anyone know if a BlackWidow Fred's Arm can be fitted to the Frontrunner Rack?

You might have to make up some type of adaptor - but the Frontrunner rack is definitely strong enough to support it.

Can Someone with a slimline Frontrunner tell me the total height above the roof of a D4?
Also, people that have these, did you install yourself and if so, is it easy enough?

Fitted a slimline II rack about 4 weeks ago to my new D4. Not difficult but a lot of bolts, square it up before tightening all bolts. I used a winch to lift it up but you should be ok with a mate if you are tall enough.
At standard road height 1950 to the top edge of the rail. There was some variance at each corner of the roof rack. Haven't measured at access height yet.

Regards

P.s. Best thing is that it mounts to the standard factory mount points, much tidier than some others also all metal, no plastic.

Excellent. Thanks.
I think that is the way to go. lots of options for it too.
l think the most important option is the $10 bottle opener [biggrin]

I like the full length Cheetah rack

I'd get one but not sure I can mount the foxwing on anything but the (rhino) crossbars

interested to see what you end up with

Thanks for all the feedback guys... I ended up going with a Blackwidow rack (if it ever arrives... Spoke to the guy from Blackwidow at the Brisbane 4x4 Show and they are having some "issues" in the workshop at the moment so delivery times have blown out).

Main reason is being able to fit the Fred's Arm (Awning Swing Arm) simply and quickly. Also went away from the Roof Top tent for convenience sake and brought a Conqueror EUV-345 trailer while I was at the 4x4 Show as well...
