Have a 2009 D3 TDV6 bought new.
The D3 had been sitting for a few days, jumped in to go to a nearby town yesterday when SWMBO says "You've got a big crack." I start looking at the windscreen, "No, in the dash."
Sure enough, about a 4-5 inch crack straight back in the dash right at the top & just left of the center.
Not Happy Jan!
When we bought the car SWMBO insisted we get paint & interior protection which is supposed to have a "Lifetime Garentee".
We also bought the Extended per factory warrentee when we bought the car.
Now my problem is do I persue this through the interior protection people or through the extended LR warrentee?
If through the protection mob how do I know a new dash would be even fitted properly.
If through the LR (Allienz from memory) extended warrentee will they blame the interior protection.
I just don't know who to chase first?
Any advice would be appreciated.
BTW I don't think the dash should have cracked anyway. My wife's car is 20 years old, sits in the sun all day & has no signs of a cracked dash.

PS Spellchecker broke.

Take it to LR first and say nothing :)

It will be some sort of stress related crack not a UV related crack so not really a interior protection issue - if it was 15 years old it would be different. Is an issue related to the construction of the vehicle - dashboard.
Should be an extended warranty issue but don't they cover mainly mechanical things.

I agree, use the LR extended warranty first & with regard to the interior protection bit, I would adopt the Sgt Schultz attitude....I know "nothink" unless LR knock it back, then use the other warranty.

My mate has a MY07 D3 which was parked in his daughter's back yard in Darwin for a couple of years. It also had a cracked dash which LR replaced under extended warranty. It was replaced and he now has a dashmat as well.

Go the Dealer. They should be happy to do it. It is all revenue, just it's not you paying.
When I bought my first disco the dash was buckled. The dealer came right out and said 'were replacing that under warranty'. They still got to charge for it. Just not me!:)

Dashboard or the lens on the display? My display cracked down the middle but the replacement part was about $30 and half an hour to fit.

The clear lens in front of my instrument display is cracked down the middle, is this the same as yours? $30 is cheap if it is!

There's a thread here http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/169750-instrument-cluster-crack.html about the lens cracking and the part number required.

Thanks very much!
I had written it off, expecting it to be an expensive exercise to replace until now and was going to just put up with it.
Thanks also for the detailed replacement instructions in the other thread.

Got onto the local dealer & extended warranty mobs today.
Allianz said they would have to have the crack assesed. If it was manufacturing caused or stress caused they would replace it, if it was sun or wear & tear they would not. They do not normally warranty trim.
So I have arranged a service in a couple of weeks & LR can have a look & get back to Allianz.
See what happens I guess.
Still not happy.

O.K.
A good result. The dash is cracking along the side of the passenger side air bag. The local-ish Service Manager got onto Allianz & told them that either the air bag had moved or the dash was faulty. Allianz have agreed to replace the dash. So $2500 for 3 years extended warranty, $2200 to fit a new dash, pretty good.
While servicing the D3 they found a very slight oil leak in the front diff, also to be covered by Allianz, now very good.:D
Also had the lower front control arms replaced, the Service Manger even hit Allianz up for this but they didn't bit on that 1, Oh well, worth a go.
Must say that after about a year of a rattly front end it is nice to have this fixed. The difference in steering, handling & feel is just amazing.
I would also like to thank the service guys at LR Cairns for going a bit above & beyond.

Nice to hear a good story about the Allianz warranty. I opted for it as well. Whether you want to keep the car for an extended time, or turn it over, having that back up makes me feel better.
