Hi,
Plan to fit an ARB Deluxe (without winch) Bull Bar to my yet to be delivered or built 110. Should i try to specify heavier front springs? Not even sure if you can do such a thing ?

thanks
Andy

a common upgrade is to install the land rover heavy duty springs....which from memory are the one they use on the front of the 130's

I would fit the bar first and see what happens......maybe measure the bump stops before and after

I have the current ARB bull bar fitted to my June 2009 puma with the car's original front springs. The steering is perhaps a little heavier than without the bull bar, but I can't really tell. It is quite an acceptable combination.
The bull bar itself is some 40kgs but the original bumper bar of some 10kgs is removed, so the net weight increase is something in the order of 30kg. That doesn't seem to worry the front springs.
If a winch and rope of some further 50kgs was added it may well be a different story although I notice Land Rover dealers here in Southern Queensland fit them without spring upgrades. Perhaps someone with that ARB bull bar and winch combination can comment for you, if you think about going that way.

Thanks Quigley, with only an extra 30 kg as opposed to 80kg, i will give it a go as standard.

cheers

yep I agree.... just fitted an arb bar and some lights... nose dropped 14mm.... have just bought a couple of spring isolators to drop in the top of the front spring to get back 10mm.... drives great don't really notice any difference ;)

Hi Andy,
I installed an ARB bar and Warn winch to my 09 Puma. The front end was noticeably lower. I had the 130 front springs installed and the vehicle ended up perfectly level. As a bonus the handling was very much improved.
The cost was surprisingly cheap.

I fitted LR winch bar, winch with synthetic rope and LR nudge bar and it dropped 25mm from memory. I replaced the front springs with LR HD springs. Now all level

Hi

I have the ARB deluxe bar fitter however with a winch. The front dropped significantly. I upgraded the fronts with King heavy duty springs which transfered the weight to the back.

I subsequently upgraded the rear to compensate the shift.

The car is level however i ended up with a 2" lift. The heavier duty springs causes the car to sit at the higher spring level.

We measured my car with project directors, and I was 50 mm higher on the front and 75k higher on the back.

No prop shift mod and no vibrations or drone.

Another vote for the HD springs (130 springs). I fitted the Terrafirma equivalents.

ARB front bar, 2010 110, car now sits level. Search my threads.

Cheers

p.s. the issue isnt necessarily just the extra weight but the position of that weight, i.e. further out in front of the car.

Fit the Genuine HD fronts or other uprated springs. As stated above, it is not just the static weight but also the distance in front of the axle.

Its not always about the vehicle 'sitting level' either. If too much weight is put on a spring not designed for it, it will dive under heavy breaking as its weight carrying capability has been exceeded.

If you spending all that money on a new Land Rover at least uprate the suspension where necessary.

I have a ARB bullbar and winch fitted to my MY13 110,
It was sagging approximately 50mm, I fitted a set of TF018 front springs which fixed the sag problem.
Observing the OEM front springs they are a progressive spring type where the wound coils at the top of the spring were fully compressed.
