Where has everyone (anyone) been getting their Castrol BOT130M Manual Trans Oil? I've shopped around Perth and have been told the dealer is the only place... this can't be right surely... : (

Can you buy it online? or is freight to prohibitive?

This meets the spec, get it in writing from them and you'll be covered...

Most of the spec is "filled for life" compliance as you are changing it I'd suggest this isn't such and issue :)

I was only able to purchase it from a Land Rover dealer. At an exorbitant price of some $60 odd per litre from memory. That form of price gouging upset me and did a lot of damage to my image of Land Rover. I'm about to change the oil again and now that the car is well out of warranty, will look for an alternative oil with similar specs.

That is only a GL-4 spec, The Penrite is GL-5/GL-6 and Ford MC approval...

I know which I would be using...

Ring Castrol & ask them for a supplier in your area. They should know who is buying it.

You can also use Penrite 75w/80 trans gear. It meets the factory specs. I use it in preference to any other brand in rebuilt boxes.

I only suggested as a possible alternative if Castrol unavailable and no I am not a expert....

But see: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130-defender-county/144910-another-puma-gearbox-oil-question.html#post1634020
Also seems to be recommended a bit if you google it.

Penrite Pro Gear also available here NZ$ 72.00 per 2.5 litre so at least there are alternatives to the dealer.....

here in NZ the dealer wants NZ$120 a litre for Castrol BOT130
(I can get it my from a friend who goes to the UK regularly cost NZ$35....)
Redline NZ$33 a litre
Penrite NZ$25 a litre...
