Hi Forum Runners,

I have been having discussions with the Toymota and Poo Troll crowd I 4x4 with and they are or have all been down the EGR block off route.

Having a quick look the below link is available for the D3 TDv6.
LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 3 / RANGE ROVER SPORT TDV6 FULL EGR REMOVAL / BLANKING KIT | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-DISCOVERY-3-RANGE-ROVER-SPORT-TDV6-FULL-EGR-REMOVAL-BLANKING-KIT-/141161389183)

Has anyone done this?
What obvious advantages will it have for the D3?
Will it create any issues with computer readings or diesel consumption?

A couple of argument threads I have been reading through:
For:
DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - EGR Valves - blank, replace, ignore? (http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic108465.html?highlight=EGR)
Against:

The against thread made me laugh..
"Lean burn high heat"...

In a diesel lean means cold!

More diesel = more heat...

Blank them before they bite you!

haha thanks Tombie.

My thoughts are very much towards doing it. No one likes to passive smoke! So why should Dot have to (My Disco is called Dorothy)

Being an 07 will I get a warning light on the dash?

You will produce a lot of fault codes on >MY07, engine light comes on. Work around: EGR emulators from BAS.
If MY05/6 go fro it.

Nope, mine is an MY07.

Got any more info on the EGR emulators from BAS?

The boys have it all sorted!

You can blank an 07MY engine as long as the EGRs still do actually work - in this case is a preemptive action. In my case I had already bought the new EGRs but was daunted by the job so just plugged the new EGrRs into the wiring loom (the dead egrs are still on the exhaust) and have no issues.

Hi Garry,

Thanks! Yes my EGR's work fine as far as I am aware, I have no fault or warning light and power etc seems to be fine.

So the EM light only comes on when you blank the EGR's and one of the EGR's is not working correctly?

And the EM light comes on when you remove the EGR's completely?

Cheers,
Ben

That is my experience in over 25,000km and 2 years driving with the current arrangement in place - my engine is a 07MY - build April 2007.

Some say you will get the EML and codes but I do not.

Great info, thanks again Garry.

I'll block mine off and see how I go.

When I blanked my January build 2007 td6 all went well , after about 4 weeks I checked the ECU with my Faultmate and had Code po402 I think which was excess EGR flow , Cleared the fault log and about 4 weeks same thing again .
This fault I believe is logged by the MAFF as it seeing high flow through the intake when it should be restricted by the ecu engaging the egr .
Long story short no one here or uk could tell me if this fault was a problem or not , and seeing ean austral was having the same thing but his went into limp mode where mine didn't , I put all back to normal and clean out the air intake every now and then until more info came to light as I was bit worried what was happening fueling wise and didn't want to go into limp mode .

Lets Us know the outcome of your trial .

Codes in the system get logged all the time - if they are not important to the running of the car then you will not get a dash display or a yellow or red EML. If the car thinks it is important it will tell you.

I checked my codes soon after I blanked my system and there was nothing there. The last time I checked it was 18 months ago as there have been no indications so no need to check - it is easy to go looking for codes but remember if you don't have a code reader you would never know, so is not important as the car would be telling you.
