Just a quick question for the brains trust, what are the 4 numbers before my chassis number (3848) 16660729 and what do they mean? Stamped on the off side engine mount.
Did a search to no avail!!

Hi LRD4,
Here is the break down:
1 = model year - 1951
6 = Model
6 = CKD (Completely Knocked Down)
6 = RHD Export
Cheers,
Geoff

There has been a lot of discussion over the years on the smaller numbers stamped prior to the rover chassis number system. Whilst the code has to my limited knowledge not been cracked the general consensus is that the numbers relate to a build number sequence of some sort. Looking forward to photos with the springs fitted. Cheers JT.

Hi Jt,
Just been researching this a little more and yep, found a few posts on this topic!
Does anyone know if all series 1's have these numbers before the serial numbers?
And if so, would it be worth while for all of us to compile a list to possibly decode it?
I've seen the poms do this with the serck radiator numbers.
