Bonnet latch issues: Discovery 2

Hi gang, I joined this forum a few minutes ago to ask a specific question. I have googled it and searched these forums but can find nothing definitive to help me.

I was driving from Wee Waa to Burren Junction this arvo at around 110km/h when the bonnet decided to let go 😮

Fortunately for me and my mrs the secondary latch (ugly hook thing) caught the bonnet preventing it from flicking up entirely.

I am currently parked near the artesian bore baths so I can't really complain about locality (except there's no bloody trees which means no bloody shade) but I feel the need to repair this before attempting another highway drive.

So my questions to the beautiful people of this wonderful forum is this:

What has happened here? And how can I fix it with cable ties and duct tape? (Yeah you heard, I came prepared)

The stub should be screwed into the bonnet. It may have stripped the thread in the bonnet. You may need to find an extra nut to fit from the back. But then it may just be unscrewed as well. Get someone to pull the cable and the stub should come out, try screwing it back in. It can only pop again.

At worst, loop a piece of rope through the top and around the support panel to tie it down. Or a belt. Used to have to do this as a requirement for club racing.

Cheers mate, it screwed back in and has held tightly ever since, I made it to Vic and will be heading to Perth tomorrow so fingers crossed it doesn't let go again.

The nut you see at the bottom of the thread in your picture is a lock nut. Make sure that's tight & it won't come loose. If your worried about it, a dab of Loctite will also secure it.
