Just thought id chuck this up. In 2 weeks time we will be competing in the Pajero challenge, its a 24hr navigation challenge so i needed to fit some extra lights. They are held on by 4 bolts and wired up with a plug so they can be removed, however this also makes them easy to steal but they will only be used for events. They are wired up with a switch under the bonnet and relayed through high beam. from what i understand they are not illegal as they cant be turned on from inside the cabin???

Looks good.

I had a similar one mounted up under my roofrack until recently when some mongrel stole it. :censored:

I think you'll find though, that technically, your wiring is illegal.

As well as being wired so that it can only be operated with the hi beam - there is also a requirement that you must be able to switch it off from inside the vehicle.

Not a high likelihood that you'd ever get caught though. As long as you can't operate it without hi beam being on, I wouldn't expect it to draw any attention. I had mine fitted for more than a year and it was never looked at or checked by anyone (except for the mongrel who stole it). All the wiring etc is still intact (at least the mongrel simply unplugged it and didn't cut any wires) - so I'll put another one up there eventually - with different mounting. ;)

Any chance of some more photos focusing in on the connection points etc.

im going to get some photo's of them working tonight and then take them off so ill get a photo for you but basically its just 2 500mm lengths of angle iron along the roof rail with a piece of 25x25 square across the front. i used 4 coach bolts with washers on the head a slide them into the rail.

Curious how do you go with wind noise? I have a 40" ridged and is great but hums quite loud at over 90 km

;)

From my understanding of the rules in Vic, you can't have forward facing lights mounted any higher than headlight height. but if you can show that the lights can't be turned on from inside the vehicle then they are classified as an accessory for show rather than a light. i went for a drive last night and it was raining, having a roof light and rain makes it hard to see. I didnt get over 70kph ( i live in the city) so i cant comment on wind noise yet.
(my car has the factory fitted projector lights)
