Which Diagnostic unit?

Hi guys,
I cant seem to find a thread/info on what I think I want to know, so here goes.

Just wondering, which diagnostic unit would be best to purchase in the near future. I have a 2011 Defender (Puma ;)).

I see several units are mentioned in posts, but as a bit of a "nuff nuff" in the electrical department, I'm not sure what I should chase.
So, all these have been mentioned at some point, Nanocom, Nanocom One/Evo/Td5, Hawkeye, Faultmate, T4 Diagnostics, Blackbox EAS Kicker, Rovercom, SnapOn Anyliser, Superscan, plus probably others which I haven't seen.

Plus I've seen a laptop at the dealers used, but I guess thats so far out of my reach it wont be funny.

So could someone give a rough explanation of whats what in the Diagnostics department please? Let me know which one would be best suited for me/Puma. Later, I will want to do an upgrade with Bas (I think thats the one), so not sure if this needs to be taken into account. I'm not after the cheapest nesessarilly, but one that will do a better job, whatever that is exactly with the upgrades etc. I hope that all makes sense.

I have a Faultmate MSV-2 Extreme, the item itself is good, but expensive. For average home service person like myself, probably more than I needed, and difficult to get value from.
I live remote and thought I'd need it.
I haven't been able to get it to do much except check for faults and reset if there were any. My unit is locked to only one car, so it is a 1 car item when you buy it, unless you pay for "multi' licence.
If you expect after sales service from them, you are pretty much on your own, unless you are prepared trawl thorugh the "community" self help site that they run, where buyers/users exchange info and support.
That aside, I'm TOLD they are the best for Disocoverys and Range Rovers.
I have one of these (link below) on order as they appear to do the basic re-set on a range of modern vehicles from 1999 on and which i hope will be a more useful item for general fault and resetting.
And it is way cheaper. Perhaps do a net search as cheaper on Ebay .

After sale service from BBS is good, particularly in view of the fact that they are in Cyprus! There is 1 year warranty, as much as you would get from anywhere else. You are protected by Oz consumer law.


I have had repair done outside warranty expiry on Nano Evo, and all things considered, the repair was cheap (and is warranted).


Shipping costs are the killer, though.


I have had quick and thorough responses to any queries I have had, and I admit to asking some dumbass questions.


But I don't expect the performance of a dealership piece of kit..my sights are set much lower than that!


Personally, I would recommend and, no doubt, others would not.
