I'm thinking about getting one of these Land Rover Discovery 3 DISCOVERY4 Powder Coated Alloy Roof Rack CAGE1650X1250MM | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Land-Rover-Discovery-3-Discovery4-Powder-Coated-Alloy-Roof-Rack-Cage1650x1250mm-/290970741743?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3ADiscovery&hash=item43bf352bef#ht_10152wt_685) to carry not much more than either a 2nd spare or a couple of jerries depending on whether and how soon I fit an aux tank. I would expect to make my own legs that bolt directly to the roof bolts as my D4 doesn't have any rails. Whilst there are specs on the tube used, I don't know how they translate to weight carrying and longevity other than the stated 170kg loading.

Any comments on these racks would be appreciated.

NB. This particular one at the moment is a little more expensive than it usually is.

Graeme,

Just had a look and the price seems about right!!! $6490.00, I might buy two of them, LOL.

That is expensive, can't imagine them selling too man at that price. What is it made of? titanium?

Even as a one off you should be able to get one made for less.

The seller has a habit of putting the price up like that when they are out of stock instead of removing the add. I too am looking at these. I bought their rail kit a little while ago and it seems fine. I'm looking for an alloy rack/tray for low and light usage and these seem to fit the bill. Definately like the idea of it being low weight as it will be awkward fitting and removing these.

I though about buying just the cage but if I find that I can't do a decent job of making legs then having their legs and buying their rails would be plan B, albeit at significant extra cost. The 2.2m version doesn't cost much more but I don't want the front overhang.

I'm assuming the price has an extra zero that shouldn't be there.

See of you can contact the seller outside evilbay as some sellers are cheaper direct and also offer a pre-order discount. I've been looking at tyres and a certain direct importer is cheaper direct than their ebay add.

This seller has a shop/display room at their factory. I've been there. They will be more than happy to deal with you over the phone or in person. Price won't vary much.

Thats a lot of money for a rack, looks just like a $1000 ARB one.

I thought the Patriot ones were expensive at $3000.....
