Hi Guys,
I am sitting at work and started day dreaming about my attempt at a camper trailer.
I have started to collect the parts for the off road trailer/camper trailer.
I have a 110 land rover ute tub and have collected the steel to make a chassis/frame for it. I was wondering if those that have gone before may have some drawings of what they did for the frame. I know there are other threads on here showing trailer builds but I am at work for another 8 hours and thought I would ask the question while I was thinking about it.
If any one has some plans or a link to the build threads it would be great.
I will look when I get home but thought I might be able to get a head start.
Thanks
Dean

There have been a few 130 trailer builds if you google them.

There are a few to start with.

Not sure if my build is one of the links above....but use 50mm x 75mm for the chassis rails and don't be tempted to use dura gal
A true land rover trailer needs to run land rover hubs with hydraulic brakes.....
Are you have brakes.....apparently you need them if your GVM is over 750kg
Good luck with the build

Well today I was given a rusted out box trailer, so there is my axle and suspension. Hoping to "upgrade" to land rover stud pattern later
And yesterday I pulled a part 2 x steel frames consisting of 50mm x 50mm x 2mm square section gal steel tubes ive got 10 lengths averaging 2400mm long.
I was hoping to build a basic trailer under 750kg to allow cheaper rego and then add the extras later. If required brakes will also come later.
Nothing has been decided as yet. And with a busy few weeks in front of me nothing will happen in the short term.
Thanks
Dean

These are what I am talking about. I will obviously pay more attention to the second link . Maybe what I have is a wagon tub.

Just my bit.... Start with the Hubs you plan to use.... Using second hand hubs that are too small etc that you will then have to modify/upgrade later means one of two things... 1, you'll never get around to it, or 2, you'll spend more in the long run making what you have fit what you actually want!! As said before, use Land Rover hubs, (series hubs and stubs un bolt, so can be bolted to a home made tube axle using the flanges that were cut off the donor axle). Don't make the suspension too hard.. ALCO's 'off road' springs are very stiff, and allow little flex. I plan to build a trailer to match the 101, and will be using 101 hubs (when I find some), and single leaf parabolic springs with decent shocks so the trailer will actually ride across the rough nicely and not spend most of its time airborne!:)

While My trailer is a little differnt (using a SWB SIII tub) I toyed with the idea of building a chassis and in the end came accross a suzuki sierra chassis which I cut down the middle added a drawbar (not finished) and then welded a sIII rear crossmember to the back, the rear of the tub mounts to the cross member, and the front which is yet to be mounted will bolt onto some RHS that is welded to the chassis.
this allowed me to use sierra lifter leafs and shocks all in sierra factory location (happened to line up perfect with the wheel arch for me!) this leaves me the ability to mount the sierra fuel tank still and convert it for diesel in place of extra jerry cans.
the biggest cost for my trailer was the Axel with LR hubs though. mine is unbreaked and is not intended to ever go over 750KG's but I will fit brakes once the budget allows.
for fitting a 110 ute Tub a sierra chassis may be a bit short at the rear end, but they are light as anything strong, already have the spring mounts and shock mounts and where the raiser rear sections of the chassis drop down allow the tub to be mounted the same height as the car yet the drawbar down at the same height as your towbar without any issues.
link to my build, i have made little to 0 more progress on it since my last post in the thread, may not be relevant to you at all but if it helps to see what others have done then ive helped in some way :)
