Hi Folks,

I firstly wanted to introduce myself on the Discovery3-4/RRS forum....I'm not new to Landys, currently owning a '00 Disco TD5 & a '78 Series 3 Ex military FFR but I am new to Range Rover Sports. So hello...and please tolerate any stooped questions I may have.....see below.....;-)

I recently found a very nice low km RRS Rimini(sp?) Red MY08 TDV8 which will ultimately do the combined work of the D2 and a VW Passat TDi Oettinger Wagon and those two will go....eventually anyway.

As I was pleased to learn, this model came "tow ready" with the LR hitch with lock & key, requiring for me to only purchase the Hayman Reece style 2" receiver and wiring adapter. Prior to doing this I attempted to fit the LR supplied hitch part that fits up behind the bumper and in front of the spare wheel. Straight forward enough I thought but....the lever (with key) that turns 90 deg to allow the locking tongue to fit up into it's receiver just won't pull back far enough to let it slip up into place. It falls about 5mm short and sits against a stop so it's not like it's sticking.

Am I missing something? I'd be very happy to find out something obvious is alluding me, but failing that.....any suggestions what is wrong? This is very frustrating.....Oh yea, it makes no apparent difference which way the key is turned or whether in or out either.....

Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi Steve, Welcome to the Forum. There is lots to learn here from ones much more experienced than I, so someone will be along shortly to advise. Not sure if the tow hitch on my D4 MY12 SE is the same but I had it off for the first time on the weekend and I did have a bit of trouble with it. Getting it back on required a decent shove, but I'm a bit of a butcher so perhaps wait for alternative advice before trying that. Luke

Just re-read your post. The little green thing is spring loaded and should pull out to the right of the tow assembly once the key is inserted and it's unlocked. Once you have pulled it out, you then turn it towards yourself. The tow assembly then falls out on its own. Obviously reverse the procedure to get it back in.

Steve, I will try & talk you through this.:o
The key needs to be in the hitch assembly & unlocked.
SO to set it up to insert into the chassis you need to pull the handle sideways & then rotate(this is noted on the green handle also), this will then lock the hitch to be able to be installed.
You then basically insert in the chassis with a little force & the handle of the hitch will partially rotate & then you rotate the key 180 degrees & remove.

Also clean the chassis too, it the receptacle part me be full of dirt/mud etc.

HTH in some way.
Cheers

Thanks guys.......I knew it had to be pilot error but I was a bit stumped. Missed the whole PULL as you turn thing (duh). I just went and tried it again and Huzzah! Works just as it should...pity I wasn't ;-)

BTW, I took the Sport away last weekend for my first long trip in it.....round trip of approx 1000kms. It ran flawlessly and it was a delight to drive...on road and off.

Thanks again for your quick replies, I can put that dilemma to bed...tomorrow off to get a 2" tow bar and wiring adapter.

Cheers,
Steve O
