Hi

Looking at a steering guard or skid/bash plate now :D

I see a Terrafirma and Southdown make steering guards, but they don't seem very available.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any available, or is it the fabrication road again?

Thanks
Steve

I haven't fitted it yet, but I brought one back from the UK last year (15kgs) from these guys:

4wheeln (http://www.4wheeln.co.uk/shop2/)

Nor sure what they'd charge for P&P to Australia. probably makes it prohibitive. Although all the local quotes I obtained were $300 to $400.

Just looked at the website and the P38 steering guard seems to have disappeared. The guy was super helpful, so if you've no better choice, he might be worth contacting.

If I recall correctly 4wheelin are also working on a p38 snorkel. If memory serves me correct the guy that runs 4wheelin also has a p38 4.6. The snorkel was due around now.

Hi

Looks like it may be the terrafirma one, they seem to be out of production as well !

Can you post a pic of yours when you get a chance mate?

Thanks

These aren't the best pictures. It got dark on me quick. Happy repost daylight pictures if desired.

Let me know if you'd like a sketch of the brackets and plate. Ideally it should be ally to keep the weight down.

Not sure if I've got the brackets the right way round.

Hi

Maybe we will be able to use yours as a template, they seem to have about the same availability as rear bars :(

This is something any CNC shop could make once we have the pattern

Maybe you could trace the brackets?

Pity you are not near me, I would visit and make a template

Will offer it up first to ensure it'll fit. Then happy to help in any way I can.

Hi

Here is a pic I found of a southdown guard bracket in place.

I would think they all mount in a similar fashion.

Hi

I have just invested in a Lemforder Track rod and Drag link, so my interest in a steering guard has been ramped up.

Any ideas ?

I could be interested in one - depending on cost.

arrh, so that's how the brackets are supposed to go. I offered mine up last week - not like that though. I was struggling to work it out with the MCC bull bar. The crush cans on the MCC bull bar will prevent installation ala the picture - me thinks. Hence, I reckon I'll need a redesign. Thanks for posting though. Helpful. Sean.

Hi Mate

For those of us with a factory setup, could you perhaps post a full size tracing of the bracket please ?

And perhaps the dimensions and the angle of bend in the plate

Thanks

Hi

I emailed rr-evolution and asked him if he would ship to OZ, we shall see what happens there.

Will do. Trace them out, that is.

Steve - if my brackets can't be made to fit with relative ease (its the winch tray that also interfers from memory), then I'll leave the brackets unmolested and just use the plate. Hey presto - spare brackets for somebody. But only if they can't be used of course.

Mate,

If you decide not to use them, I would be happy to take those brackets and get a CNC file made to share with others :p

Funny - I just took delivery of Lemforder track rod and drag links! Full kaboose rods with ends.

Hi

I had an answer from Florent at rr-evolution, shipping for the steering guard and front winch receiver combined is 300 euros, so expensive as expected :(

Check apt fabrications $250

Check apt fabrications $250

For a D1 and Classic, not P38A

APT Fabrication for Land Rover parts - Steering guard | Discovery 1 & Range Rover | AF1023 (http://www.aptfabrications.com.au/range-rover/product/7-steering-guard-discovery-1-range-rover-af1023)

I wonder if they had group order, they'd fabricate some for the P38A? I'm still keen to build up my spare P38A for off-road but I'd have to do it on the sly.

Hi

I started a thread on rr.net and someone said that a D2 guard will fit with modified brackets.

Sadly I don't think there is anywhere I can go to test this theory :(

My brother has a d2 with a skid plate. I'll do some measuring next time I see him - could be a couple of months though. ..

I suppose as the mcc bars a few have got are d2 bars, the skid plate is going to be close enough to modify.

Even making new chassis brackets wouldn't be that hard.

Hi

I reckon I could cut out the brackets with a jigsaw and a bit of patience, if it comes down to that

Including this one which shows the recovery points :D

I was wondering of the brackets for our beast couild be modified to include recovery points

Hi

My queries on FB have brought this to my attention courtesy of an English P38 owner.

Front Axle Diff Guard Range Rover P38 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/111293879974)

Not sure if it protects the track rod as well

I wonder if would still fit with the raised suspension and not touch on max articulation?

Hi,

Further digging led me to this page :p

Exterior Protection (http://www.4most4x4.com/exterior-protection-228-c.asp)

So it seems the terrafirma stuff is either rare or just starting to be produced

Hi

None of that stuff is listed anywhere on the terrafirma website as far as I can tell, very odd!

I have emailed the 4x4most guys for a shipping quote on the alloy guard.
