Hi

Can someone give me the overall height of an 18" wheel on a P38 please?

Benji made the point that he wants to be sure the carrier can take the biggest wheel and tyre combo I am ever likely to fit

Thanks
Steve

265/75 16 or 265/65 18 would be the biggest most would run. Although if he's making it in the view to continue selling it a 33" would be a safer bet.

I have 265/65 on 18" rims and they're 803mm dia. 31.5" dia in old money. Thats per spec. I haven't taken the tape measure out.

I think a 33" tyre would cover all bases.

I take it that you are not the Benji referenced above?

You picked it, Steve is referring to Benji from Rampt customs :D

My KM2 265/75/16 were about 810mm diameter when brand new off memory. Not sure if that helps, but thats the biggest I'd go without extended bump stops or guard trimming.

Thats about all I can add.

I think the largest tyre on the placard plate on a P38 is about 29.5" so the largest you can legally go in Australia is about 31.5" but judging from the monster tyres on many Nissotas the police aren't too interested, however, insurance companies will use any excuse to weasel out of a claim.

I use the 265/75R16 KM2s which are about 32" when new and they can just catch the inner arches under extreme articulation so I wouldn't go bigger than that anyway.

There are plenty on here with P38's running 285/75/16's - 33"ers. With a 2" lift of course. Still some rubbing being complained of though.

I wouldn't buy a bar that couldn't carry two of my tyres, of which 33" will be the diameter (soon). If they want to sell, they'd cover all bases with one carrier.

Mate

I have sent him the 33" measurement. I am getting a Jerry Can carrier on one side but I am sure he could make it for two wheels as well.

He is a pretty small operation so I can't see him ever mass producing them sadly.

It's good to support the small businesses though! Good to hear!

Please post pics when complete. I would love to add a jerry/water can holder on my existing kaymar RWC the provision for one seems to be there so I guess it's a matter of fabrication and fitting Does anyone know of a Vic company who would do such a job
Kind regards

Lol, no. Different Benji. I wouldn't mind his fabrication skills though!

Now. .. if only I had a mig, panbrake, mandrel bender, oxy, bigger grinder...

I'd be easy to fold up a double jerry holder out of some sheet and bolt it to one of the swing away frames. That way you've got a two tire carrier, or tire and jerry carrier.

Bruce P38Can't you (or a fabricator) just copy the carrier that was on eBay last week?
There's a few decent photos & it looks like a simple structure.

Thanks Scouse. I called Rijidij and they quoted 600 sight unseen!!! for a jerry can holder on an existing kaymar RWC which seems reasonable Ill reference that photo for him to work from. I'll probably use the jerry for water ( with a tap ) for camping, work and dogs as I've got ample range with LPG and ULP
