Mine finally let go :( Knew from TB that mine was in the range :(

New one from dealer :( lotsabuks!

Not a big job :) when I finally get it :(

Service Manger did mention to be careful about "grey" pumps manufactured before April 09 (TB date) as they will be the "old" pumps . LR sell superseded part nos/stock out to re-sellers :(

Cheers

RF

PS: If I gotta have oil stains on my driveway TD5 ones are/were better

Buy from UK and import. Mine was only £127 at the time and LRA wanted over $550 from memory.

I swaped mine over before it failed, just to maintain reliability.

I actually have a spare (new) vacuum pump sitting in the garage....someone gave it to me when they sold their Puma

Questions:

What do they do?
What happens when they no longer work? That is to say, how will I know when it breaks/ fails?

They make vacuum for the brake system.

When the fail they leak oil everywhere - underside of the bonnet gets coated, you won't miss it!

I carry a spare every time I go bush - they're cheap as chips of eBay in the US - they're a Transit part.

They don't all fail that way.

Mine leaked no oil whatsoever. The only symptom was that the amount of brake pedal pressure needed increased to a level that was reminiscent of my Series III.

The little plastic valves inside the pump had disintegrated.

EDIT: Mine is a 300Tdi. The TD5 may be different.

Not Tdi, not TD5, we're talking TDci ! :D pretty sure the Puma vac pumps tend to go at the oil seal first (will that's where the dodgy ones go anyway).

Yep what you said....when they go they leak oil everywhere !

The problem was fixed from 2010 on wards with new designed pump.

Supposedly, not really a Transit problem apparently, Transit vans = bitumen Defenders = dirt dust and mud. DD&M get into the original seal and destroy it. New design has inner and outer seals. Outer one to keep the crap out and away from the "oil" seal.
