Picked up my new girl 110 from the auction in brissy today bat was flat so we jumped it, no dramas, drove it out to the main drag stopped to check lights indicators etc...the gauges all went out?? (almost as on cue) not tempting fate (no jumper leads)we headed home 25 min drive with only the speedo moving, on getting home she wouldn't shut down. I manually shut her down and checked the bat, only read 3 volts? wiggled any wire i could find, checked all the fuzes, and kicked her over again...13 or so volts must be the bat?? Nope...ten mins later bat is charged all the gauges are working as are all the electrics horn lights etc. Have started it at least 10 times during the day...perfect all working to plan hasn't missed a beat...I'm not concerned as it all seems great ATM...just curious what the hell could have occurred.
Cheers

Were you measuring off the battery posts or on the cable connectors? My perentie had an intermittent starting issue until I found a lot of buildup between the post and connector have it a good wire brushing and haven't had an issue since. Might not be your problem but worth a look.

I had a few electrical problems when I got mine a few wires were disconnected here and there . When I removed the air cleaner to get to the wiring underneath I found the wire going to the glow plugs had not been connected . Every time I started the engine the wire melted a bit more I was lucky I found it before it started a fire . So have a good look around the electrical system for anything that does not look right.

the battery was too flat and you were running off of the alternator which was probably only kicking out a marginal voltage. once you flicked the headlights on the alternator lost its excitation and stopped producing.
the battery never got charged to start with.
From memory (and its been a while since Ive seen this one)
one of the relays behind the dash or one of the switches that provides excitation to the alternator isnt playing the game.
Daves interesting things should have a CD with the wiring diagram on it, once you know how the fault can occur fault finding its a doddle...
till you know what you're looking for the wiring diagram is worth about as much as a bowl of spaghetti for fault finding.

I also picked up my new FFR from Townsville on Monday, had it trucked up from Brisbane to TV and then drove it from TV to Mareeba.
All went well on the drive apart from a flat tyre.
Went in for a roadworthy the next day (being the eternal optimist) and had three defects. Oil and fuel leaks and head lights not working. Oil and fuel leaks are no problem so i tried sorting out the electrical problems.
Found some very untidy wiring under the bonnet and also looks like water has leaked into the fuse/relay box in the cabin.
So i started changing the relays around and now the engine will crank over but not start. A friend who has a 110 has told me that he has had problems with these relays in the past. I will check all the relays out and see if there is a fault with them. Desperately in need of a wiring diagram if anyone out there can help please.
An interesting entry in the log book states that the vehicle was completely dismantled at 125 kilometres "yes, that is 125" and the chassis was galvanised and the vehicle re assembled. Logbook states that the vehicle has only done 10,600k's

I am in a similar position on a steep learning curve (can't even change a house fuse!). I picked up "Fred", a Perentie GS from Minto. and drove it back to the Central Coast, so I thought the battery would be well topped up. All the gear worked - main and side lights, indicators, stop lights, horn wipers etc. but most warning lights didn't (Oil,Ignition,Brakes, Main Beam and Diff Lock).
Opening the bonnet, the front loom along the firewall looks like a mess of overcooked spaghetti as does the fuse box - no wire wrapping at all. So I thought I'd take it slowly and sort it out bit by bit. Now I read that if the ignition warning light doesn't work then the battery won't charge so its become a lot more urgent. The bulbs look ok and I tried one of the ones I knew was working in the ignition without any luck.
Could anybody please tell me where I can buy bulbs to replace them all and whether I can temporarily bypass the ignition light to keep the battery charging while I learn how to tidy up and test the wiring.
The rear loom is in perfect shape so it looks as if they were called off the job in mid stream.
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
