So I now have an NBN aerial and am awaiting telstra to supply the wireless router, once that is done I need to get the internerd from the house to the shed, approx 50M from where the router will be, has full line of sight
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what product to use to transmit wirelessly, I am a bit inept when it comes to IT as I don't have a huge interest, I am not worries about price, I do like products that are simple, robust, work well and am always happy to buy the right product for the job

I have a wireless Ethernet bridge I use for work. In standard trim with the supplied antennas it will easily do 100 to 150 metres line of sight. With a set of Yagis on it I've got 8KM with good signal strength. The unit is called a Digi Xpress - XPress™ Wireless Ethernet Bridge - Digi International (http://www.digi.com/products/wireless-modems-peripherals/wireless-range-extenders-peripherals/xpress)
They are easy to setup and use and have very good through put.
So basically you plug an Ethernet cable into the unit at the house, then at your shed, run another Ethernet cable to you computer or wireless router and your done.
I bought them locally, but I don't think they were cheap.... I'll just go and hunt up the place I got them from - they are in the Eastern burbs of Melbourne and were very helpful, but may be a bit OTT for your application.

Netcomm make a little wireless extender NP124 they might have a later version now and I am not 100% on range but I cant see it being an issue as you have 2 divices sending out a signal. You plug it into a power point and connect it to your wifi, once setup you plug whatever you want into the network port on the netcomm or attach a hub if you need more than one port. They are quite cheap also.

Bear in mind they don't like metal fly wire or tin walls, if that is a factor consider an external AP at the shed end, if timber glass a USB AP should connect your PC nicely.

The other thing to try rather than wireless is Ethernet over power. This is how I get internet to my shed as it it all steel.
In the shed I just have a wireless access point for my devices.
Here is an example:

Shed would need to be on the same power circuit which i doubt it is, wireless is probably your best bet with external antenna's at each end.

If you are looking at wireless solution your best bet is to get wireless repeaters. But, thanks to that 40-50% loss in bandwidth right off the top, just about all wireless extenders suck.

You'll need external antenna for that distance and metal sheds...
You have 2 far better options:
Full speed - Cable run... Mines cable to the workshop then full wifi inside (with the workshop shut range is onloy 4-5 mtrs outside the structure)
Ethernet over Power - uses the power cables as the medium for the data.
Netcomm, TP Link and Netgear spring to mind...

Actually no it doesn't.... I was surprised too, but as long as it gets to the main board (assume no 2nd direct board to workshop from street).

I will second that. I'm using these at home right now and I'm sure the 2 ends are on different CB's. I'm not clear on what sort of distance they work over though. I wouldn't be surprised if interference becomes an issue over long distances. Google should have the answers. If distance is no issue, the Ethernet over power adapters are quite good and cheap. You could even have a second wifi access point in the shed if you wanted too.

I could just run a cat 5, as I have to underground to the shed between the house and have to do storm water from that shed to the tank behind the shed I want the internerd in. maybe I'll just do that net time home and I have the digger going

Box of cat 5 in shed, no box of Cat 6;)
I'd suggest that anything I wish to do in the shed, the cat 5 will more than suffice, if it's an issue pulling through 25mm conduit will be easy
All I do is read stuff and occasionally YouTube, if I was live streaming movies I'd be in the house anyway

I am another using Internet over power line to get Internet in the shed (that's where the playstation and driving sim is set up...).
I have to add my vote for its simplicity and plug and play application. Its far simpler than the wireless extender I've used to get Internet in the lounge (and improve WiFi through the other end of the house). That was a real nightmare to setup, although to be fair it was easier after I did a firmware update to my gateway device.

If your going to have Cat5/6 between the house be aware that there is a risk that earthing potential between the buildings can cause devices to go POP. I was a disbeliever till we had it happen.
Peoples opinions may differ on the risk of this but I just thought it should be highlighted.

I could see how that could happen, and i have run miles (or kms) over time doing just that.
So far lucky.
But i do now insist on in line surge protectors now, been bitten too many times by lightening. It seems a near miss can set up massive induction (?) on a long open run.

WNBP, Bialla, not even on Google Maps, 150km by road from Kimbe, heading towards Rabual. You can almost drive to Rabual, (in a Cat D3 !)
Your idea of trenching would be the best deal if you have the gear, although 802.11n gear nowadays is bloody good & cheap.
OR contract it out to the NBN if your not in a hurry :D

The islands, nice
Yea, have 1.5T digger so no biggy to trench, have to trench the distance anyway and being data I can just jam it in with the storm water:D

Not too bad, last fishing trip 4 yellowfin Tuna, pleanty of Sailfish & Marlin around if that's your game. We fish to eat not to release
Record was 150 Tuna in one trip (not me), greedy buggers

Haha, that would be fun, we are confined to the compound unfortunately, hopefully when construction is over we will catch the big mud crabs that walk around the plant at night, they should be tasty
