I've read the old posts on the subject but they all got highjacked so here goes...
Ive taken my sump off to de -wing it for turbo install. :-):-):-) The gasket on there is a normal thin type.
The main reason I get to turbo is because I told wifey it would make the Landy quieter (and not hold people up on hills) So, has anyone replaced their normal gasket with the thicker rubber type? Where there any problems? Did it improve noise any?
Thanks
Ramon.

No, went the other way - no appreciable difference in noise, but it did reduce the oil leaks.

Have you priced the rubber gaskets? I'm sure I recall a post about them being quite dear ($100++ each).
Can't comment on the noise level, but I will think seriously about just using silicon like a 300tdi when I next have to do one next. At the moment mine has a genuine composite gasket but at about $70 last time I bought one some decent silicon might be a more economic option.

I went from thick rubber gaskets to just silicone and cap screws. No difference in noise that I can tell. But I would have lost some oil volume. Sump-diff clearance was my main motivation.
I have brand-new isolating gaskets from a genuine gasket set here. If you want them, make me an offer.

Thanks for the offer but I noticed a small mark on my sump that is perfectly aligned with the ally air fitting on the maxi drive actuator. Nothing to worry about but I definitely won't be adding any thickness.
I end up using copper high temp gasket goo by pertek. Mainly because we were looking like we'd get storm surge from cyclone Ita and had no time to order. I'll post back on here if I have any problems with this method.
Cheers
Ramon
