Team,

After warming up, my L series diesel FL1 idles high (sometimes). Around 1800 - 2000 RPM. Then it get's better and performs normally. I admit I grew up with carby petrol engines and am not 'oh-fay' with modern turbo diesels;). I can't see any cables, so I'm guessing its an electrical connection from the pedal to the engine inlet (injectors, HP pump, whatever). Any thoughts on what might be sticking, or playing up. Cheers and thanks,

Wal

I had a similar issue once and it was a faulty coolant temp sensor (not the one that drives the temp gauge) but this also resulted in the check engine light coming on. As you have not mentioned this I assume you it is not on.

The simplest way to diagnose is to get the codes read and if there is an issue take it from there. It could be one of many issues (likely sensor) and the ECU is responding by raising the idle - unlikely to be a throttle position sensor.

Garry, Cheers mate, I'll get it checked out with my local Landie mech as it's due for a good service. I usually do the Free'o myself but it's been a loaner for my son, so in need of some TLC. Thanks again.

If Woko or Camel Landy come along they may have a better idea of where to look.

Cheers

I'm with Garry on this one, faulty coolant temp sensor. The part number is ERR2081. Very easy to change. It is located on the top of the water outlet on the head just behind the alternator.
