View Full Version : Thoughts on Scotia Grey

Hi all, getting close to ordering a new D4 and am struggling with the colour choice.
Looking at the brochure, the configurator on the LR website and photos on the net, I really like the look of Scotia Grey but haven't been able to find one at a dealership to see it in the flesh.
My only concern would be that it's too light green in sunlight. What are your thoughts on this colour? Anyone have a 2014 D4 in this colour?
I have had 2 white cars in the past and really want something a bit different (although not too dark) this time around.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi there
Colours are such a personal thing, what one person likes another hates, but I found this on car sales if you're interested. It does have bit of a green tinge of green to it.
New 2013 Land Rover Discovery Series 4 TDV6 Wagon for sale in Garbutt - Tony Ireland (http://www.tonyireland.com.au/510177-56848-land%20rover-discovery-2013.html)
I have ordered a MY 2014 in Loire Blue based on what I've seen on a Freelander & a RRS & I still don't know if I've made the right decision, but I sure hope so.

Thanks Tiddy, I did notice that one and it looks great. Just keen to see one in the flesh before committing.

Fantastic, thanks Sniegy. I'll definitely try and pop in one day over the next weekend or two to check it out.
From reading the brake controller thread, it appears MLR is the place to have them fitted too?

Re opening this discussion...
I've decided that Scotia Grey is the way to go but am still undecided on the interior colour.
Whilst Ebony (black) is the 'designer recommended' combination, I reckon Almond would still look ok and I'm a little worried about the heat buildup in an all black interior.
Thoughts? Would Almond in a Scotia vehicle look ok?

I have a black interior in my car but I also have very good 3M window tint and I can leave my car parked out in the hot central Qld sun all day and it's probably maximum 5 degrees hotter, and the leather doesn't get hot really I've found the LR leather one of the only leathers I don't sweat in the seats in.
I've had one car with a light colour interior and it was a bloody pain in the behind to keep clean!!

Yep I agree, Tint is a must & I have black leather interior in my old and new car. They wear well and keep their looks. Light colours are asking for trouble in a 4WD - unless you want to use yours as solely a glorified city shopping trolley !

Hey DiscoFan,
My Disco 4 has the Almond/Nutmeg interior, So it must be a great city shopping trolley just ask Torero22 He knows everything!:o Once he gets off his high horse & actually has a D4 he might understand everyones needs are different.
Seriously tho' i drive these things everyday, the heat build up in the Black i did not like. The heat difference between the 2 i would gather on a hot day would only be a couple of degrees, But the darker interior just felt hotter because it was Black. Probably just mind games;)
Tint is the answer. Get a good quality tint & all will be good. I have privacy tint on mine (2 front windows @ 35% & from the B pillar back 80%) this way keeps the vehicle occupants, fridge (for the shopping obviously) & the interior trims cooler.

Hey My current car(SUV) is a Glorified Shopping trolley for city driving only ! And proud of it. Yes it is black leather & tinted. And sits in the sun & doesn't get that hot, due to the heavy tint.
But taking a light interior 4WD with mud around. Not my idea of fun, accidents will happen - Ouch !

If you might recall the heading of this thread - he did ask for our opinion. I get my 2 cents worth too.
You a bit sensitive in a public forum ?
Sounds like you have a chip issue ..... A little bit uncalled for - don't you think ?
What have I done to you for you to get so upset about ????
Good luck to you.

Thanks everyone.
Sniegy, have you ever seen a Scotia Grey / Almond combo? If so, how'd it look?
My wife reckons they might be a strange mix but I reckon it'd look alright.

Hey DiscoFan,
Haven't seen one yet as we have only ordered one so far & thats the one you viewed.
I personally would think it would be nice, but hey i like things a little different.
Because the colour transfers between sort of 2 colours, In sun it has a tendency to have Green/Silver paint the Almond interior would be good. (Earthy)
In the dark it has a Grey paint & again the Almond interior i have seen plenty of vehicles with this combo & again a big hit..
When you are in the vehicle you want to see the colour you have chosen, you can't really see too much of the paint work. (Maybe the bonnet :D)
You're the one paying for it...YOU have to be happy. Who cares what other people say :p

I agree with Sniegy 100%, but my view comes from years of hard 4WDing and sitting at a camp site watching others pull their interior carpets apart to wash them, because they have had accidental stains from very stubborn mud on light coloured interiors. You are the only one who will decide where you will take this car 4WDing, we won't.
If you do decide on a lighter colour, invest in a rubber liner for front and back to avoid those upsetting moments. Let me know if you need a link for these, they are not normal rubber mats, they have short walls. You can take them out when you are in the city.
Good luck with your decision.
Cheers

Your entitled to your opinions.
Another option to consider - an experienced engineer that is very accomplished in his personal career - with several world firsts !
If I have a dollar for the many times that I have been told by closed minded individuals like yourself - that I can't do something - I would be a billionaire.
And yes a long career ! My age is my own affair !
Yet I run at my own beat, playing my own drum, and always achieving the goals I set for myself. I only have two speeds fast & faster !
I guess I will just leave you in my wake.
Edit: Curious - What have you achieved in your life ?

Land Rover interiors tend to be pretty robust and having had both, I tend to think there's not much difference between the light and dark interiors in terms of wear and tear.
The D4 is the first Disco I have had without a light interior, mainly because I wanted a change. I like the black, but I think it shows up the dirt more than the light interior. It marks just as easily too, but the marks are white instead of black. Also don't find it doesn't make much of a difference in the heat - the air-con deals with that. Ultimately they've both been just fine.
I think the best wearing interior they have done was the Tundra in the D2 and D3.
So, just get the interior you like and don't worry about it. ;)

Jon

Have to agree with Jon we have had 3 cars with ivory leather two also had ivory trim/dash 3rd has ebony trim/dash all had ebony carpets. The last one with ebony trim shows dirt much more. We have had no issues keeping ivory leather clean we use The Leather Doctor products they seem to work real well. And yes the lighter interior is cooler and feels more spacious. And yes all were fitted with good tints. So I agree with Jon go for the color you like and want. And perhaps have dark carpets as these don't make much difference to interior feel/ look

Thanks for the feedback guys. I've decided to go with the Almond interior. With three dark interiors in my previous three vehicles, it's time for a change.
Hoping to finalise an order this weekend all going well :D

Even though its not the designer's choice, I think that's a nice combination.
It may not be to your taste of course, but if you're going with almond have a look at the walnut trim. To me it really gives the almond a lift over the meteor or whatever the grey stuff is called.
Cheers,
Jon

Don't think the walnut is available on the TDV6 unfortunately. Otherwise I definitely would get it.
