Good news story - Repco water pump

Rolled into a friend's property to the unsettling sound of a water pump about to lunch itself, 120km NE of Dubbo NSW and 500km from home.

Racked my brain wondering where I'd find a Landy part out there, then thought I'd take a wild stab and called Repco Dubbo.

"Don't like my chances but don't s'pose you'd have a water pump for a V8 Disco 2, would ya?"

"Mate, I'll have that here in the morning!"

"You bloody beauty! Better order me a fan spanner too please!"

So spent the arvo drinking beer and fashioning a fan removal tool (to brace the pulley) from a shelving bracket.

Got a lift to town and back, whacked her in and drove merrily on my way the next morning.

So now you know - Repco stock a water pump for V8s.

If it fits a D2 V8, it would probably fit a P38A V8, too.

whats a self lunching water pump sound like btw?
(ruling out the whistle under the hood we have atm which I'm suspecting is the serpentine belt)

An irregular grind and clunk from the front of the engine. Remove the serpentine belt and assess bearing freeplay.

You could run the motor briefly with the belt off to eliminate it as a cause.

If it's more a chirp than a whistle it might be your front drive shaft. Can you hear it when stationary?

Yes; Sound varies according to revs not according to speed. And makes no difference if the lights are on or off (if that means anything)
Sometimes sounded a little chirpy but might just be the fact it is intermittent. So hopefully can rule out drive shaft (which was replaced upon purchase couple years ago, and I've only done 30xxx km of road work since)
