Hi
It will be the light switch on the steering column as all the power for the headlights goes through that switch so it's more than likely burnt out
Needs replacing but before you do that fit a headlight wiring up grade to the car
One of the members on this site sells them. They are brilliant and very easy to fit
Traxide I think it's called

Probably the headlight switch. Common failure on them, pretty cheap to replace too!

:)Hi Dod defender. Most likely the column switch ,common problem,.Best solution contact Dave [Dave can do it],found in the shop section of Aulro and purchase the Defender H/Light upgrade. It is easy to carry out the mod. and with a new switch will cost $275'00 approx. The improvement to the system is great ,including the instrument panel lights and less chance of burning out the column switch makes it a worthwhile project.I am no way associated with Dave just grateful to him.Best of luck Lochie

pull the shroud off around the steering column and pull the head light switch, you will be able to bridge the switch[with a short wire twisted] and have lights, you will have to unbridge the switch when you get to work, order a new switch from ebay.uk[much cheaper] and install 2 relays[one for high and one for low]

Thanks guys for the help. past post have said up grade best way to go for lights. See how I go driving to work tomorrow. It was only a hour ago I was telling some one how great the truck was going. Next time I will keep it to myself

I had same drama
Turned out being a stuffed relay behind instrument cluster
It's the relay that turns headlight off when keys turned off

Take instrument cluster off and it's mount top left

Try that first

A few of us have had the same problem , the switches work but only just from new , they get hot and melt you can play around with them to get them working again but new is the way to go from the uk off ebay . I remember when mine went It was only a new switch , and I thought It was the Relay behind the dash , there not standard they have two extra pins , you can fit a normal relay but you loose a function , for the life of me I can't remember what It was , I'd check the switch first !!.. let us know how you go , and good luck . Jim ..
