Kaymar Rear Bar and Mudflaps

G’Day All
Looking for some advice..
I have a new Kaymar Rear Wheel carrier fitted to my D3 – absolutely great - no problems here.
However, I have been through 2 sets of the “standard” mud flaps (cracking) and would now prefer not to have them on at all at this rate. When I remove them I have a bloody big hole between the Kaymar and the now non-existent rear mud flaps – see photo.
Has anyone had the same problem and found a cure for this? Perhaps a shorter after market mudflap?
I have trimmed one of the existing Standard mudflaps but it does not look that flash…

I found the same thing on my D4 when I removed the mud flaps so I bought the cheapest Chinese D4 mud flaps I could find that were sourced from an Australian supplier and have not had any cracked mud flaps since! They are exact copies of the LR mud flaps and fitted perfectly but nice and cheap to replace if I damage them again. All four LR mud flaps disintegrated on my trip to Cape York but the copies are still perfect after my trip to Darwin on as many tracks as I could find.

Which make of flaps did you get - ebay?

Looking at your picture, I'd say you need mudflaps that are set rearward to the wheel arch ( and therefore butt up under the wheel arch trim). I presume OEM ones are like that, but I purchased these (http://www.aussiecarparts.com/cart.php'm=product_detail&p=160) from Aussie Car Parts (Chinese I assume). They are perfectly fine as road mud flaps and they are set back, and therefore I expect they might fill that hole you mention.

They are however made out of hard plastic. They have no flex and off-road the first rut that they scrape on will catch and crack them. This happened to me, so I purchased a set of flat flexible mud flaps from super cheap auto, cut them up to work as the 'flap'. Then I hacksawed the hard flap of the Chinese one off and screwed the flexi flap to the remainder.

It works a treat. I have taken these off road through mud and over steps and through sand holes and they have survived unscathed.

I just searched on ebay. I think they are the only ebay item I have ever bought. No brand but they are not the huge flaps that some D3s have. They are the smaller D4 versions and fit perfectly with the Kaymar rear bar.

On eBay, there are hard plastic (like OE) or soft; the soft seems to last better, and mine has so far survived several trip, including Vic High Country which Cooper LTZs didn't.

I have the Ebay cheapies also, 2 yrs now no breakage or cracks.

Only thing I don't like about them, they are too short.
