Nope. Dyneema is just so much better to handle.

I doubt it. No more springy cable to wrestle with, no more cuts from wire splinters, and a lighter winch hanging off the front of your Landy.
Apart from the cost, (which is not TOO bad), it's all upside, I reckon!

Sorry guys I'm calling them all plasma rope, dyeema is different stuff i think, but after along time I'm thinking of getting a new winch rope, I love the idea of the weight savings and easy to handle, but was too stingy while my old wire is still doing the job. But I read an earlier thread synthetic rope can easily be jammed in the drum wraps, and difficult to pull out. Also I notice no one uses the old, heavy, ugly, knee buster roller lead any more. The guys who are using the new rope and alloy or nylon fair lead , how's it going?. The rope is coming off the drum OK? , if you winch the car side ways so the rope come out of the fairlead at 45 degrees or greater does it overhead or damage the rope or the fairlead? ( alloy or nylon is best?)
After I have used my winch I usually park on gentle slope below a good gum tree and winch the car up the hill while laying the wire nicely on the drum so it's stowed neatly and tight for next time. There seems to be some different ideas with sythetic ropes. I'm going back through the old posts on the subject but appreciate any new advice.tks simmo 1995 Tdi wagon:cool:

I believe dyneema is a brand name......it's the type of fibre used and it only comes out of three factories......plasma is the other brand name and it's made everywhere.....it's all essentially the same stuff synthetic
I was in the same position as you, my wire rope is still in good nick....perfect nearly. Wire rope is cheap however it can also get jammed up.
I only just fitted my rope yesterday and layer it on criss cross.....to hopefully reduce it jamming up. A mate at work had all sort of troubles with his jamming up during a three hour winching effort as he laid his on the normal way.
I would go an alloy fairlead 'hawse' I getting mine from nugget (member on here) as he makes them out of billet aluminium..the off the shelf ones are just cast. Plus you can customise the writing in the hawse......well not in my case but you can for electric winches.
I too am interest in what happens when the rope is pulled at tight angles across a hawse......it cannot be too big an issue given the number of winches running them.......roller would be the best option overall.
As I said I have gone criss cross method.......although it could be many years before I test it out
I too have a 95 wagon

Thanks weeds, I'm convinced & going get get a synthetic rope, fairlead and new hook. They have come down to a sensible price now, I'm budgeting about $250. Reading the forums , there's still a lot of people out there using the rope with roller leads, I like the big rollers turning , no drag on the rope. But dam it's ugly hanging off the front of my car, and my rollers are chewed up a bit by the wire. I have been putting it off because I put the winch inside the winchbar with only the clutch handle sticking out. So I have to slide the winch bar out of the chassis rails then I can access the winch from behind. I don't do so much winching anymore, I used to get fire wood in the forest so got stuck a bit, which is why I ended up with a rear maxi drive and a winch. Pulling the single axle trailer to some spot to get some wood was easy, but getting back out with the wood and trailer the same weight as the landy was often interesting. There's a lifting gear & rope place across the road from TJM on buedesert road. I had a chat with him once before. I have and old XD 9000 warn, I figure I can get 30 meters of 10 mm on it, does anyone have an XD 9000 with synthetic rope?
