Good Day Guys
Went to open the bottom Glove Box on my 2005 D3 and the handle almost fell off. It looks like the right hand "plastic pin" that the handle pivots on has snapped off. Has anyone had this problem and been able to get in at the handle and the opening mechanism. I can open the glove box but can't seem to get the two parts of the glove box door apart (i.e. the plastic inner and vinyl outer) . Any advice would be welcome.
Cheers
Gary

Looks like it never happened to a previous owner because I had mine 'expire' in 2006 not long into ownership so the dealer got to 'repair' it. In the meantime I gathered up all the parts I could find and put it back together temporarily.

A suggestion from the dealer was to NOT pull the handle from the driver's side but try to pull it up only from the passenger seat.

That said, I have not had it replaced since then and can't be sure if I followed his advice.

As to answer your specific question I am sorry mine fell open so I didn't have that problem.

Hopefully someone else with relevant experience will be able to answer.

Happened to my D3 early on Alto replaced it under warranty. Inconsistent quality of parts may be the cause. Inside door handle also snapped when my mum opened the door. Also replaced under warranty.

If you can find a wrecker & get a handle then you "may" be able to re-insert the handle/spring back into place with some patience.
The Front Vinyl panel does not come apart from the inside plastic so hence the patience needed to re-fit the handle:eek:.

It may just be easier to buy from the wrecker another Glove box lid.;)

Thanks for the replies. It did look like the lid could not be split. I was working on the theory that "if it is made by man, it can be stripped down". Silly me
I am currently in Albany WA and will try the local wreckers.
Thanks again.

See my post on how to fix this by fitting a piece of steel wire as an axle for the existing handle.

Thanks for the post on how to fix the glove box handle. Will give it a go at the weekend.
I don't have much input into the AULRO forum but look at it every night and am amazed at what you guys do and that you are happy to pass on your knowledge/experience to anyone on the forum.
Thanks again.
Gary.
