Hi everyone just wondering if anyone has made or seen made a cheaper way to make some wind down legs to level trailers/caravans
I've been quoted $80 a pair and a couple local trailer shops and as I need 4 gets a bit pricey, being handy with the tools /welder (carpenter by trade) I thought I'd see if I could make my own,
Even thought about gEtting some cheap jockey wheels and removing the wheel and replacing with a plate :)

$80 /pair is reasonable to me but to make you own all you need is 2 different diameters of tube (round or square) that one will slide into the other.
Weld on some nuts and make some sort of locking bolt with handle , weld a small plate onto each foot and your done.

Hi,
Brad Fawkes (http://www.campertrailers.org/leveling_your_camper.htm) describes a method using the jockey wheel on a trailer.
You could probably get away without winders in the legs and just use pins.
But you mention you need 4. Is it for a trailer or a slide-on camper?
cheers

I did make some which similar to what you've described, but I do enjoy tinkering, and trying to make things rather than buy I thought maybe I could make some wind down ones, the ones I have no work we'll but always room for improvement

I did something similar to the sliding square tube but two ways to make it simple and safe is to use a bolt with a small amount of thread, cut the head off and bend it in the vise and also in the total retracted position I drilled a hole in the inner tube so it doesn't stay in only by friction, you can screw it in further. Mine has worked on the camper trailer now for the last 12 years with no problems
