Anyone else still feel cramped in a puma with Mulgo rails fitted?
I have a set of the mulgo extended seat rails fitted on the drivers side of my puma 90, yet I have to click the seat back past its full extent.
by that I mean so it slides 1 more inch but doesnt lock in, so when you slam on the break you slide foward 1 inch. . not fun.
It seems with the seat in this position It is basicly hard up against the 'bulk head bar' or whatever its called behind the front seats in a puma 90.
anyone have sugestions for extra leg room? Ive been considering lifting the rails with some spacers to get more height, but I already look at the top of the window and I am only 182.5cm tall!! so 6ft on the dot basicly.
how do the taller and bigger guys out there cope?
sugestions on ways to get more leg room without cutting the back out of my chair(something vie been considering)

Dunno, I'm taller than you and don't use 'em - probably still got two inches in rearward adjustment left in the standard seat rails.
Maybe take a look at the alternate seats LR offered (SVX, etc) - I've heard they have less padding/are thinner? I've also heard that you can remove the bulkhead - I think a few uk aftermarket mobs do conversion kits.

I've read about a few people with leg room / height issues in a Puma, and I can only guess that there are major differences between the TD5 and the Puma Defenders, as I have absolutely no problems with leg room or height in the TD5. I'm 180cm and 85kg, so not too tiny.
Pretty much is identical in the body section between the models, isn't it? Is it that there is a big difference in the seat?
Could the TD5 seat have a lower seat base than the Puma? Less padding?
I also must say that I've spent 10 hours in a day in our TD5 Defender driver's seat, and it's certainly comfortable enough, so I don't think the seat base has compressed or been modified...

Hi,
in my new 130 CC my wife's knees hit the grab handle on the passenger side yet in my son's new 110 they do not --it has the leather seats and there is one inch more 'space' between the handle and the seat squab. Still we fitted one of Mulgo's seat rails to the pasenger side in the 130 and now no problems--but we don't have that 90 bulkhead replacement stiffener bar. Maybe alter your seat squab.:)

mine is a 2012 Puma 90 with Leather 'boulsterd' seats, and the Mulgo rail on the drivers side. my knee's dont hit or anything and I can sit and drive comfortably, but if I could get another 2 inches i would be so so so so so much happier. I dont spend any time in the passenger seat and rarely have pasengers so not sure what irs like over that side of the car
(the single life with no time to meet women, and all my friends have there own cars so no plans to get more leg room over there)
I think the bulkhead is going to be the main issue, if it wasnt for the bulkhead I would probably just have new 'extra extended' rails made or add a plate to the ones I have.
does anyone know what the bulkhead actualy does in the 90 seeing as one is not needed in a 110?
what are the replacement options for it?
thanks.

The 90's and 110's (3 door) you can either get with a bulkhead for putting a truck cab on them, or without the bulkhead which comes with the factory "bulkhead removal bar" on them.
I don't think that Australia had the option of getting 90's with bulkheads at all, I think that unless they were special order that they all came with the bulkhead removal bar already factory fitted..
Aftermarket kits are available to remove the bulkhead from overseas versions, some are ok and some are pretty bad quality.
Some only cut down the top of the bulkhead by approx 8" and some are complete replacements.
Running a 90 without the bar or bulkhead in them causes a lot of flex to the body and subsequent weakening of the panels, especially over rough ground.
Also made worse if you have a load on the roof.....
Maybe talk to an engineer about re- designing the bulkhead removal bar to allow for more seat room.
Regards,
Mike.
Edit: I've been thinking, there are a few members on here that have made extended cabs for their Defenders, (cannot remember exactly who though) they have posted about them before with pics.....
Maybe if you can find them, ask them how they went about stiffening up the body, or what they did instead.
The one I'm thinking of was a 110single cab that got extended a bit, maybe they just moved the bulkhead back a bit into the load area, I'm interested in how it's going with the stresses involved with the body flexing?

The Dash is the only major difference. The newer puma dash traded in some knee space for proper aircon that didn't just cool your knees. Bulkhead vents to :(
Ha - to think that there might be someone sitting in a Puma wishing they could cool their sore knees! :D

I am 193cm tall and 90kg and have no problems with seating in my 110 TD5, and that is without extensions. At first i noticed the lack of space, and also notice it if i have not driven it for a few weeks, but know i hardly notice it. I actually really like the overall seating position in the Defenders

Not sure how the extended seat rails feel, but I recently drove a 110 with the rear of the rails lifted so the seat moves back over the upright lip and it makes a huge difference to how much room you have, and the actual height.
Was good for us, so we will be doing that little number soon.

I am 2meters and 120 kilos. I tried the mulgo extension but it raised me a bit which meant my legs were touching the steering wheel and it impacted on the visibility as I was sitting higher. I then changed the steering wheel to a smaller wheel with a boss kit. It has been the best modification I made to the car. I can now drive the 90 like a normal car. I don't have the seat extension either.

I have driven gazcoonars car. With his wheel it gives you plenty of leg room. I drive a 110 with mulgo extensions. At 185cm I fit both styles. People of same hight can have different leg/torso ratios.
Perhaps a smaller wheel and leg extensions is the perfect setup for big guys.

Well, compared to Gazcoonar I am a relative midget at 6 ft 1, but in my 110 puma wagon I drive with seat at its rearmost position (no rail extensions fitted) and I find the driving position and comfort excellent.
My only complaint is also that the original wheel is a little large in diameter. I'm considering a slightly smaller wheel and boss kit, and I reckon that will see me smiling even more than usual from the pilots seat :D
Love this truck...

Have a look at MUD UK, they do some stuff and ship everywhere. Very good quality, as well.
