View Full Version : Buzzing/whirring noise in dash after braking

Hi guys just wondering if anyone else has this noise or might know what it is? After braking and coming to a stop at a set of lights for example I can hear this strange whirring/buzzing noise coming from inside the dash area in the center or left side. It does it every time I come to a stop and it only goes for a couple of seconds. It's not the little fan that draws in air for the climate control because that one rattles all the time hehe :p
Cheers
Mick.

I had this start immediately after the dealer put thicker plates on the top of the shuttle valves on the ABS block. Seems to come from the right area too. So used to it that I hardly ever hear it, after nearly 300k.

I've heard similar on occasion; though predominantly after a U turn from stationary

The auto ECU under the passenger seat occasionally buzzes on mine, normally only notice it when stopped and music off/down.
Safe to say, I don't hear it often :p

Is your air con or heater fan running at the time,Mine has end float and the fan moves to one side slightly and causes a noise.left hand corners i think

I can only hear it when I pull up to a set of lights when the engine is quieter. It starts when I have almost come to a stop and disappears a few seconds after I have stopped. It happens every time and no this is with the AC and fan off. It almost sounds like a little servo motor buzzing..

Sounds exactly like mine.

I suspect it is the Wabco ABS unit . Have you checked the brake fluid? It could be the auto box but they generally dont make a sound, even when they dying!

Shouldn't be the ABS modulator as I only rebuilt it 6 months ago by replacing the shuttle valve seals, micro switches and the circuit board bypass mod. Plus I flushed all my brake lines with new fluid. The ABS unit has never worked better actually..

It sounds like it's in the dash rather than in the engine bay.

Mick, mine makes the same noise, just as you come to a stop from the left footwell. Sounds like a servo maybe closing a flap. Only does it with the climate control on.

Don't think it would be that being a manual hehe :p

Hmm, has it been there before the rebuild? or only just popped up? There are the BCU behind the glove box. There is also the airlock, head gasket thing that makes a noise in the heater core when a head gasket leaks or the water is low. although that is a gurgling, not a whirring I think. A bit baffling:o

Yeah you're right about what it sounds like only mine does it with the climate control off

It's not the intake fan for the climate control temp sensor because that rattles all the time on the right of the dash near the ignition and the diagram in the link with the idle air control valve is for a V8 but mines a TD5.

Yeah it made the noise before the modulator rebuild and I know that water sound all too well when my head gasket went last year :( when they re built the head they installed a one way valve that's supposed to eliminate water rushing around back and forth in the heater core.

Gurgling in the dash just means there's air in the cooling system :)
Interesting re manual vs auto....
Might have to see if mine does it with the CC on.
