View Full Version : Buying parts from overseas

Hi all. I need some new o2 sensors and a few other things. Contacted local and the prices are ridiculous.
I looked at British parts of Utah and john craddock. Good pricing. I sent emails to both. No replies.
Have people been using them do I trust. Am I supposed to get a price for international delivery? I really could do with those sensors. I'm chewing through over 22l per 100 and it's killing me. I'll get plugs and service at the same time but don't want to line the pockets of the local bastards. Ideas appreciated.

I've bought from mainly UK stores like Paddockspares, there's a lot of stuff on eBay and you can see the delivery cost there.

I've bought a couple of times from the UK, wabco air compressor and a few other parts and all has been good. Would highly recommend it, just use the well known places though.

I purchase almost all my parts from O/S
Land Rover = UK
Honda = USA
I use Britcar UK and they have always been good for me (about 4 years).
You can use live chat on their website so a repsonse is the same as a phone call to the local dealer (call at ~7 pm in Oz to speak to them in business hours there).

I can only order from overseas.
Got my O2 sensors from Rimmers as most parts. Always get a reply and generally dispatch next day.
I tried Islands 4x4, but after 5 e-mails and 3 O/S phone calls gave up.
Cheers, Jerry

Ok so it's not just me. Bloody Utah has a bit saying they do overseas deliveries. I'll try the suggestions so far. Thanks.

I just ordered yesterday a whole heap of bits from them (island 4x4), and must admit its about my third of fourth purchase from them and if I have questions about things its not worth the hassle, but I have had a return and they were great and if you know what you want they are well priced for some things.
I usually shop about and always wait until I want a few things and compare the few big major websites to get the best deal including shipping, as with somethings its still good to buy local - I also ordered during the week a radiator expansion bottle and some huge air filters and after postage Karcraft was best.

I try to buy filters and consumables locally - quite often get some good advice from my local independent LR shop, the few extra dollars on the parts is neither here nor there. I don't begrudge them being a little more expensive, the overheads of a running a shop would be high.
Ive bought higher value and one off parts from Rimmer I highly recommend them, and their website is a good one, Paddocks also has a good site

Famous four?
Yep famous four, I've used them a couple of times, very reliable but depending on part size, postage can be a bit steep.

I have found Island 4x4 to be reliably cheap but slooowwww in responding and not so cheap in their shipping costs.
These days I'm buying more from roverlord, good service and best prices locally.

Have purchased from Rimmer Bros many times, first rate - they're my go-to online shop. Also Paddock (OK) and Craddock (never again - very slow response and shipping).
I've also bought from BP Utah and Atlantic British in the USA - a little slower but was quite happy.

I have had very good service from Paddock Spares, quick responses to emails and on my last purchase of 2 rear air bags gave 3 freight options.
Also uses Island 4 x 4 and prompt service but I think their freight was expensive.

I've used Craddock, Paddocks and LR Series. LR series is far and away the best.

In the last 12 months I've spent over 1200 GBP.
The majority of the purchases I've used LRDirect from the UK. Visit www.lrdirect.com (http://www.lrdirect.com)
You will need to know part numbers as they don't have listings. This isn't an issue though as with-in a minute using google anyone can find the number you're looking for.
I like LRDirect as they provide various brand options including genuine, this enables you to compare prices/quality of parts. In the checkout they provide shipping options too. Processing time is same day if in stock and if order submitted before 2pm their time, otherwise the next day dispatch. Their telephone support is usually good too on the few occasions I've rung up to discuss product quality and/or looking for unknown part numbers. They have responded to emails in reasonable time frame.
Alternatively I've used www.britcar.com (http://www.britcar.com) for items I can't get at LRDirect.
Unfortunately the dollar is now against us and the savings aren't quite as good as they use to be - depending on what you buy.:(
Happy shopping!

I buy spares from both local, interstate and UK sellers mainly through eBay but sometimes direct. It always amazes me when I can get things delivered to WA from the UK quicker than from the eastern states. Recently been ordering parts from Rovacraft over the phone as the service has been outstanding.
Items with moving parts or bulky items I prefer to source locally as easier to deal with warranty claims if the need arises. Imagine having to arrange to send something bulky back to the UK.
If buying from the UK I prefer to use eBay and Pay Pal as at least they have a disputes process and most credible sellers do seem to be sensitive to avoiding negative feedback.
One tip, also look for parts listed on eBay UK instead of AU as sometimes the prices for the same listed items are lower even with delivery charges. Probably has a lot to do with what exchange is being used at the time.
