Hi Guys,
Picked up the 2011 D4 Yesterday and got some time to poke around, I have some questions - hope you can help.
It is a D4 2011 TDY6 2.7 Coomandshift - looks like an SE to me. But has some upgrades.
Yes I read parts of the manual & scanned others.
1) the "passenger air bag is off" light is coming on, yet on the passenger's side there is no key to turn it on & off. It has a blank plate and behind it is the connector for what I guess is to connect the panel with the key to turn the airbag on and off ? Anyone know if there is another way to turn it back on ?
2) the radio has a configuration symbol - but have not worked out how to get into the config via the radio screen - any help ?
3) the D4 has leather seats as an upgrade, looked under it and found Ford - yuk - seat warmers - yet there are no buttons for me to activate them - could these not be wired in ? or are they automatic, if so how would they turn on ?
4) under the drivers seat is a big black box with no labels with lots of wires going to it. Some sort of command module I think - is this the ECU ?
5) saw a blank panel under the passenger seat - guess this is where the Sat Nav goes into.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi Tor - I can only talk to the first item - in Aust you are not permitted to tinker with the passenger airbag so the ability to turn it off is not an option - so no key etc.
When you say the light is coming on - is that just on start where the light goes through a startup test function and then should switch off OR is it on all the time? If this is the case then there is an issue and it will need to go on a test book to have it turned on or if there is an actual fault then it will have to dealt with by a dealer.

Does you's have a large screen on the dash??
Main ECU is behind the battery under the bonnet.
I think the heated seats work in conjunction with something else??
Our doesn't have any of what yours has, so can't answer most of what you want.

Thanks for the information, the light stays on for a little while and then it turns off. Does that mean it is on ?
So when the airbag is off, the light should stay on all the time ?
Thanks for the help.

No large screen, it has the the SE default radio screen.
I wonder what the box is then !!! Mystery..... Another puzzle to solve ?
The heaters are wired to something - Haven't traced the wires yet.
Thanks for the help though = appreciated.

If it is a 2.7 it isn't an SE. The 2.7 can be optioned up though.
Are you sure they are seat warmers? It is possible it is something to do with the airbags or seatbelt pre-tensioner.
There are a lot of Ford parts in the D3s and D4s as the D3 was designed when LR was owned by Ford. The motor is a Ford PSA collaboration for example. Most of the electronics is Ford/Volvo.
Go to Topix and enter your Vin and all will be revealed about your spec level.

Do you need to register? I can't find my way round the website to get any details if my D4... (Could it be because I'm on an iPad not a PC?)

I just registered on my iPhone so iPad shouldn't be a problem. Took about 2 mins.
Don't forget these cars are made for worldwide, so like most European cars, there are going to be HEAPS of missing bits and pieces that aren't applicable to Australia. It would be impossible (just about) to know what all they are for.

As others hav said, light will come when car is started as a partt of the self test and then go off. If it stays on there is an issue
2) the radio has a configuration symbol - but have not worked out how to get into the config via the radio screen - any help ?
3) the D4 has leather seats as an upgrade, looked under it and found Ford - yuk - seat warmers - yet there are no buttons for me to activate them - could these not be wired in ? or are they automatic, if so how would they turn on ?If you have heated seats you will have a button for each seat in the same row of buttons where the hazard light switch is. Modules/controllers for this are under each seat if this installed.
4) under the drivers seat is a big black box with no labels with lots of wires going to it. Some sort of command module I think - is this the ECU ?as said by Rob - audio amp
5) saw a blank panel under the passenger seat - guess this is where the Sat Nav goes into.As best as I can determine, there are three modules under the front passenger seat:
 USB/Ipod connectivity module
 surround camera system
 Drivers seat memory module
Any help would be most appreciated.

****Just a TDV6 with options (same a mine)
Yes I read parts of the manual & scanned others.

It has a blank plate and behind it is the connector for what I guess is to connect the panel with the key to turn the airbag on and off ? Anyone know if there is another way to turn it back on ?
****The light comes on as with all the others on start up as a check to make sure all is ok. Light stays on for a minute or so then turns off(this is what you want-all OK) if it stays on you have a fault. In Aus can't be turned on/off as ADR required.
2) the radio has a configuration symbol - but have not worked out how to get into the config via the radio screen - any help ?
****I can only assume you have the 3" monochrome unit? Can you take a photo & post. Not sure what you mean by Configuration. (I too have the 3" monochrome & don't recall any Configuration button), but we may be talking about 2 different things.
3) the D4 has leather seats as an upgrade, looked under it and found Ford - yuk - seat warmers - yet there are no buttons for me to activate them - could these not be wired in ? or are they automatic, if so how would they turn on ?
****There is lots of wiring under the seats, The wiring for Heated seats comes as a pack, The switch to turn on/off is on the HEVAC unit above the temp dials, this pack includes Steering wheel, Front Screen, Wiper washer Jets, 2 outer 2nd row seats, So if you do not have these other options then you will not have heated seat wiring. Most likely seat occupancy sensors.
4) under the drivers seat is a big black box with no labels with lots of wires going to it. Some sort of command module I think - is this the ECU ?
****As said Amp for radio
5) saw a blank panel under the passenger seat - guess this is where the Sat Nav goes into.
****As said Nav Unit can go into this spot. Also depends on Spec of vehicle & options included.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Also NOTE the Book is a Worldwide Edition. So not all the things in the book you have. Eg: Fuel Burning Heater N/A to our market.

Thanks everyone for being so help full.
Sniegy, Find attached the pictures of the two things I am trying to identify
2) the radio has a configuration symbol - but have not worked out how to get into the config via the radio screen - any help ?

### it's not a button but there is a symbol of a gear, see the picture bottom left. I am wondering if there is a secret key combination to get into it. I am searching the web for an answer. Appreciate any assistance.
3) the D4 has leather seats as an upgrade, looked under it and found Ford - yuk - seat warmers - yet there are no buttons for me to activate them - could these not be wired in ? or are they automatic, if so how would they turn on ?

#### see attached picture of the box I am trying to identify, I assumed it was heater since it is so large. Would be surprised if it was just a passenger sensor - could be an another item as you suggest. But both sides have one & some wiring disappears into the seat base.Again any help appreciated.

Ok Easy,
The little box is just a connector box. IE: if you need to remove the seat assembly for instance you undo the bolt & the whole Connector comes apart as ONE instead of finding a connector here & then another one here, it is all in one.
The Gear symbol is in the stereo is for Configuration but not applicable to our market, again, The same unit is used in the Focus & a few other European vehicles.
As owners we can't get to the info in the system. Neither as a dealer we get no info to adjust things. It is all set & forget from factory.

More Questions:
6) I have rear parking sensors, yet the vehicle doesn't have the switch for them, next to the hazard lights switch. Is the switch only to turn off the Front sensors if they were fitted ?
7) I will soon start to pull apart the beast. To get access to the area behind the radio screen, do I have to remove the lower centre console and work all the way up ? Or can I start in the middle, that is take off the two side panels with the air vents ?
8) any one have any experience running cables up the pillars to the roof area and out of the ceiling lights ? I suspect that it is easier to get to the middle lights rather than the fronts - from just looking at the vehicle. Am I right, anyone tried running up cables ?
9) The D4 had driving lights and I found the cable where I suspect they were connected to in the engine bay. Although there are no spotty switches in the console or any holes. I suspect these vehicles are wired up to run spotties from the high beam circuit ? I know this is the legal thing to do, but it would be nice to get the choice to turn them off if you don't need them.
9a) where is a good place to place spotties so that you do not affect the air flow into the radiator. The old ones sat right in front of the grill, looks good - but would affect the vehicles cooling.
10) where do people run cables leading to the roof area, to say Aerials, light bars, etc. I don't like drilling through the car body, are there any rubber caps I can punch a whole through ? just curious what others have done.
Sorry again - but I am only warming up !!!!:vampire:

6) I have rear parking sensors, yet the vehicle doesn't have the switch for them, next to the hazard lights switch. Is the switch only to turn off the Front sensors if they were fitted ? if fitted, the switch will do both front and back. you only get the switch if you have front sensors installed as well.
7) I will soon start to pull apart the beast. To get access to the area behind the radio screen, do I have to remove the lower centre console and work all the way up ? Or can I start in the middle, that is take off the two side panels with the air vents ?from memory you have to start with the lower part

9a) where is a good place to place spotties so that you do not affect the air flow into the radiator. The old ones sat right in front of the grill, looks good - but would affect the vehicles cooling.i have attach the LR instructions for installing their lights. might give you some ideas and show where their switch goes etc
10) where do people run cables leading to the roof area, to say Aerials, light bars, etc. I don't like drilling through the car body, are there any rubber caps I can punch a whole through ? just curious what others have done.from the front, up the A pillar under the cover. can be difficult not to damage the clips that holds the cover on when removing it. Fromt the rear - out the the same place the wiring comes out for the upper tailgate. There are holes in the fire wall both passenger and driver side. try looking for some threads on installing UHFs. instructions are there

There are Airbags in the pillars, might not be a good idea fiddling with these.

It is quite easy to go up the A pillar (cable tie to the existing bunch of cables behind the airbags) and through to the front map lights.
There is an illustrated thread somewhere on disco3.co.uk (search "Blackvue install") but here is the gallery (http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=5124) of the photos of how to do it.
