View Full Version : Diff Lock Switch Location 2008 Puma

Bought a pair of Ashcroft Lockers to put in the Puma. Took to my mechanic to fit as well as a lot of other suspension upgrade works.
I wanted to use the redundant top left three switches located in the dash for the front, rear and compressor, but he tells me that he can't and wants to put them on the side of the dash near the steering wheel.
Can anyone who has had lockers fitted to their Puma let me know where they mounted the switches.
Thanks

The carling style switches don't fit (neatly) into the switch space in the factory dash. Mulgo sell the disco (also Puma) style switches that fit the factory dash. The switches are not likely rated for many amps but an air locker uses a relay so the switch is adequate for that job. I put my locker switch being the factory style switch from Daniel in the bank of 3 on the right of the dash so it was between the steering wheel and gear stick. Easy to flick on and off as you need. It would require you relocating the other switches. My puma 130 doesn't have the mod cons of the 110 so working out what is your best location for your switches isn't a dilemma for me.
It would look damn sight better than carling switches bolted to the side of the dash. Your mechanic is short on imagination and lacks aesthetic intelligence.

Mine are as per the photo below. Most installers probably would rather drill holes and use the switches they have rather than go to the (substantial) trouble to get the right switch to fit. The etching was done with a laser by a friend of mine.
There's some useful info here (http://forum.lro.com/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=47654). As MLD said, to be safe, just use the switches to activate a relay. Your installer can wire the lockers up to a relay and you can do the rest (if you're comfortable with that kind of thing). If you have one, a Mulgo Ex-box is a great location for the relays.

Hahahaaaaa - that's a polite way of saying he's got his taste in his arse, if ever I heard one - hhahahaa
On the subject of "what's that in the photo?"
John, what is that switch you have on the left? Looks like a camera - ok, dumb suggestion but I'm intrigued
ps thanks for the lro link - I'd forgotten about it.

I mounted mine in the yellow square.
You can buy these switches premade from expeditioncentre.com.au for $51 each.
http://www.expeditioncentre.com.au/online-store/touring/electrics-fuses-connectors/land-rover-auxiliary-switches-for-defender-2002-onwards.html
or you can go to rimmerbros.co.uk buy 3 seat heater switches, delivered to Oz, and then buy 3 sets of connectors for these switches off ebay for a total of $71. This is what i did, and took me 1bout an hour and a half to sort out them out. (they were already wired to the relays on carling style switches.)

extremely useful link about installing these.

I dont suggest putting carling switches in the right hand side behind the indicators as i accidently activated my front switch in a car park while towing a trailer and lost my steering.

cheers GeraldMy guess is a reversing cameraIt's an unfinished project that will one day be a reversing camera. The idea is that the camera will be activated either by putting the car in reverse or via the switch on the dashboard. A couple of diodes ought to do the trick. One day it will get to the top of the list...

While we are poking around your truck ;) I like the netting above the jesus bar. Can I assume you took out the foam above where the netting is to make more room as a storage space?

And where, may I ask, did you get the netting from?

found a photo. Should add i paid $15 to get both switches engraved from a random engraver who had a laser engraving machine. And i really should get around to pushing the diode out a bit more on the front locker.

Thanks. Sanity has prevailed and my mechanic is going to fit the Mulgo switches I am picking up on Monday.
I can't believe he wanted to drill holes in the side of the dash when these switches are available

Thanks but as the three switched on the dash are at present free I feel that would be a better solution.

yep i put the secondary light switch in there for my 42" lightbar. Good option if you can swallow the pricing on the switches (my one didn't come with the cable clip either).
