View Full Version : Who is running 35's?

Is there anyone in Melbourne that is running 35's? I would like to fit them to my D2 but would like to see how they fit first.
I know a 4" lift is recommended, but I think they will fit fine with a 2" lift and cut guards which is what I have.
If someone in Melbourne could let me try them on it would be great.

Adam, I have yet to trial it, but from my measurements on my vehicle 315/75R16 (which is almost 35") would fit with a 3" lift and the Les Richmond White Tiger flares on my D2a. At only 2" lift I'd have some rubbing.
Also to consider is the wheel offset (+30mm). From my calculations, the fronts will rub at turn on my unless I wind out the steering stops to suit obviously or get more offset wheels (e.g. +6mm) to retain the full steering.
I have been keeping an eye out on Gumtree and my local 4WD forum for some second hand tyres in this size to trial (I can't justify the expense of buying new straight up) - it would also be good to have the used tyres for the engineering process as they'll be a little bit smaller and the vehicle a little bit lower than brand new ones...

Yes, I'll go wide offset. Looking at walker rims where I can get whatever offset I want.
The other alternative is to go 35x10.5 tyres. It's just a pity there are no 35x11.5 as this would be perfect.
I am running air suspension which is why I don't want to go higher than 2" lift. But I can live with minor rub. But would still like to see it on the vehicle.

I think the Centipede comes in 35x11.5-16 with the triple center rows.

Hi Simon. Yes, this is what I have on the Rangie but I am trying to steer clear of crossply this time. The price keeps going up and quality going down. My last set were virtually unbalanceable. Also they are closer to 36" which would be too big.

10.5 and 11.5 centipedes have 2 lug centers. All 3 lug are 12.5 and are available in 35 and 36.

Still debating whether I put 35" on mine so far the 33" have brought me nearly everywhere others with 35" went. I'm wondering how much difference it would really make in tackling difficult stuff?

Adam I have got 35x11.5x15 simex and 35x12.5x15 MTZ your welcome to come try them .

You can get the tyres I have (Interco SSR) in a 305/70/16 which is 34" - Probably not too wide and just a little smaller to help with the potential rub with a 2" lift

Thanks Pommy, but are they D2 runs? I haven't heard of anyone fitting 15" rims to a D2?
Steve, I have been debating exactly the same thing. I have 33" A/T's at the moment and they have gone most places. If I get the same size in an aggressive mud tyre it might be fine........but doesn't look as cool. :p
Tim, are they a new size? I'm sure I looked a while ago and they were not there.

Sorry mate forgot about your different wheels on a d2 no worries

How does the air suspension limit the lift?

Couple of guys in the UK running them now. They're fine as long as they have extreme offset to clear the brakes.

Im not sure why you would bother. I guess tyres are cheaper but then they look illegal in that pic as they hang out past the guards.
Im thinking of going 17" rims with 35's. there seems to be a lot more choices in rims and offset in the 17"

To gain a lift with air suspension you have to put a spacer under the airbag. I am running a 50mm spacer now which is the tallest you can buy off the shelf. Your not gaining any extra suspension movement with spacers and I would not like a 100mm spacer under the bag, there is a lot of forces at play and Im no engineer.
If I could find a longer airbag to fit the D2 then that would be awesome.

Les Richmond Automotive sell a 100mm spacer in there White Tiger range of products. It's also available as part of their 4" spacer kit < Performance Suspension Kits (http://www.lrautomotive.com.au/contents/en-us/d599.html#p17196) > for when optioned for an SLS vehicle. I have fitted it, it's not straight up and down like the smaller spacers to account for the change in angle when going all the way to 4". It has also been engineer approved on a few vehicles now fitted with their full kit. It's not listed on there site at < Discovery 2 (http://www.lrautomotive.com.au/contents/en-us/d1288.html) > with the other components but it's certainly available from them off the shelf.

I spoke with Andrew about this. He said the spacer is really only designed for use with coils. He said he wouldn't be using it with SLS.
That was last year, maybe he has a new upgraded one??

Cheaper and more choice, easier to get hold of etc. Plus gives enough offset so they don't catch on the inner side of things. and they look great. The angle is a tiny bit misleading, they just about sit within the 75 mm arches.

There must have been some confusion as it is a angled spacer that is 100mm at the tallest side and about 80mm at the shortest, if you used this with coil suspension you'd have to use standard height springs for a 2" lift, as +2" springs would result in 150mm total lift (as the spacer is 100mm itself)!
Aside from myself, this fella < Two Tough | Australian 4WD Action (http://www.4wdaction.com.au/articles/2012/two-tough) > who has it engineered as part of his lift kit, has it. I have personally spoken to the engineer aswell. I'd have another chat to them.

Hi,
just wanted to ask what people have done in the meantime. I will be upgrading now to 35" or ifJT2 34" but still not sure what tyres.
Will the Jungle Trekker 2 34x10 fit on my 16x8 rims?
Who runs 35' on a D2 at the moment?
Cheers

I think there is some confusion there.
The 100mm spacer is specifically designed for use with the SLS. It is designed on an angle to ensure that the airbag stays in a straight operation as your probably aware the diff moves on a circular pattern based on where it's anchored as it's pushed further away from the chassis.
The 100mm spacer is not designed for use with coil springs - you used it with coil springs, assuming +2" coils that would give you 6" of lift. It is designed for use with the standard SLS airbags for those wanting to lift up to 4" as 100mm = 4" and the standard airbag has no additional lift.
The 50mm spacer is available for both coil and SLS. In SLS this provides a 2" lift and with coils provides 4" lift when used with +2" springs.
The installation instructions provided by White Tiger have pictures in them of the SLS airbag fitted above the 100mm spacer and specific installation instructions for this.
I note that the 100mm spacer is not shown on their website. Only the 50mm is fitted to both a coil and SLS setup - http://www.lrautomotive.com.au/contents/en-us/d1288.html

Yes, I do.
Edit, apologies, I run 34x11.5-16
