In prep for my trip to the Cape, a very nice dealer is doing me a Spares kit on Sale or Return basis , as we are not allowed to say their name i will just state they are on the Northern beaches side of Sydney :wasntme: One question they actually asked is what would i need in terms of the Intercooler hoses as there has been a few go i have heard on some of the forums on the TDv6, any recommendations? apart form maybe changing them all for silicon?

Thanks

Change the hoses all for silicon before you go. Vastly reduced chance of holes or splits then.

The little one at the back, where the turbo is is an absolute pig to get to. You wouldn't want to be changing that one on the fly. ;)

I bought my set of hoses from the UK, and they cost me about $150. Probably about 3 hours of labour?

The long hose (from intercooler to inlet manifold) is the one which usually dies first - so that should get priority over the other two shorter hoses which attach directly to the turbo. ;)

Have there been any 3.0 turbo hose failures yet?

I have a D3 which is 7 years old and I have just replaced the long hose as Jonesy suggested. I am yet to do the other hoses but have a question for those who have done the 2 shorter turbo hoses.

Is there a good time to do it? What I mean is are there any other jobs which can be done concurrently to improve access to these 2 hoses to make it a simpler and quicker task?

The front left one is not too bad. Once you have the wheelarch liner out of the way, and the plastic cover to the side of the front underplate off, it is reasonably accessible.

The back one however - there's no easy way to get to that one.

Dave, would it make sense to get the mechanic to replace the two left side hoses when doing the Timing and fuel pump belts?
I have already replace the long hose from intercooler to manifest, but I have avoided the other two.
Thanks
Mike

Mike, for the front left one, yes. For the rear one, there is no other routine work needed nearby. The only good time to do it, is when you feel like scratching hell out of your wrists and swearing a lot. :D

not heard of any, but i am just taking some bare essentials for the trip to get me out of the :censored: precautionary measure so i do not have to wait for weeks for parts from Melbourne to turn up in the Cape
