Replaceing 20inch with 19inch wheels

Hi I have a RRS 2008 with 20inch wheels on it they are a bit curb damaged and I can get a set of 19 inch 2010 wheels to replace them. Are there any issues with doing this? Will they fit without modification?

If they are D4/RRS wheels they will fit fine. Just be aware that the selection of tyres is less (particularly for ATs) in 19inch.

It depends on the brakes fitted to the RRS. If you've got Brembo brakes (Standard on Supercharged & TDV8 and optional on TDV6), then there are only 2x very specific 19" rims that fit.

He has a 2.7 TDV6.

You can get Cooper Zeon LTZs in 19 ..... and they are awesome :-)

As far as I'm aware LTZ's and Pirelli ATR are the only readily available 19" AT in Australia and only come in 255 55.
20" has Nitto and Kumho available in 265 50 as well as LTZ, Toyo and 2 x Nitto in 285 50.

I agree that the lack of brand variety and size variety in the 19" is a PITA....but can only improve in time I imagine.


Getting back to the OP's concern .... his reality is a wish to get a tyre that gives him more sidewall to protect the rims. Am I right in calculating that the sidewall of a 285/50/20 as being marginally bigger than a 255/55/19, but not so the 265/50/20?


What are the cons of the 285/50/20 size, other than their perceived Brand's performance (excluding the Cooper LTZ) .... scrubbing, etc? Oh and their legality in Australia (all States)?

Are you assuming he wants the 19s to get more sidewall ? I read it as he can get some 19s cheap to replace his damaged 20s...

That's a very good and probably accurate point based on his post. However, are we talking explicit needs verses inferred needs? ;-)

Yeah, the smaller wheels mights turn (laterally) faster, making the pump over extend the steering arm ... or something such ... LOL!!!

Just got the pirelli scorpion ATR's and they certainly seem to have more bulge. I run 41psi and still a more notable bulge than the factory ones. Got a little too close to a curb yesterday and I was sure I'd have a nasty gutter rash on the rim. I was pleasantly surprised to see only a small mark on the rubber. Phew!

My wife has a RRS TDV8 - what are the two specific 19" rims that fit? I'd love to find some black ones, or maybe get silver ones powder coated...

If D4 19" rims fitted I'm gathering they'd be better because of their higher load rating? It's much easier to source second hand RRS rims...
